Offshot from Warsaw thread. Seems we'll have 5 players, and it means some trouble with setup. Any suggestions?

I've seen USA, SU, GER ITA JAP which is obviousy axis victory.

And there is what Isebrand proposed in last thread, USA, UK, SU and GER ITA. Which means allied victory at least if the game is not 3 alliances.

There is also USA UK SU GER JAP which is a bit better than the previous, if only a little.

In short, i'm puzzled.

Ah, 1936 game. 4 players are competent, fifth one i haven't played with (sorry Halibutt :D), but i guess he's also. Vanilla HOI.
 
In my experience an German/Italy axis is stronger than an German/Japan axis. Japan has very limited impact on the decisive battle: Can Germany beat the SU before US can make massive landings?

SU can hold back Japan with ~25 vanilla inf until the battle against Germany is decided. IMHO it needs a lot more units to secure its Turkish flank if Italy+Germany get control of the med.

That's why I think a 5 player game should include Germany+Italy, not Germany+Japan.
 
Hmmm. On the other hand, Japan is a lot better against UK and it pretty much assures UK will lose India and subsequently africa...

Japan is also almost impossible to effectively militairly control with so many territories to cover, while Italy is not. If we implement unlimited tech share to alliance minors which we'll probably do it makes even more sense. I am not sure.

And then again, i'm would hate to play Italy again. Japan, on the other hand is what i like more, naval warfare...

Well the UK would have contorl over the australia and the lot - that could help curb Japan a bit? Also the USA would probably be also a threat to the Japs?

Well, i would be playing Japan i guess. Australia/NZ are annexations targets really. USA is main enemy (if SU doesn't get funky ideas about invading China that is), and its sort of uphill battle, but it can be won-even long term, when you get enough IC from your asian co-prosperity and such.

Of course it gets worse if Germany gets annexed and easier if SU gets annexed, but in general, Japan can spank UK badly before US entry into war, and that includes their pacific Commonwealth allies.
 
Are you playing 1.05c or 1.06? If you need a 6th player and a stable host feel free to contact me...

1.06? Alas, no ... We will probably be playing the Starfire mod (1.05c based) which we feel is the most sensible mod for MP at the moment. If 1.06 does come out before Easter it will likely be vanilla 1.06 though.

We are playing a LAN game, so unless you are in Warsaw ... but you are very welcome if you ever are, and we may consider an Internet game sometime.
