While I have no previous experience I was wondering if some of you EUIII veterans knew if it was possible to create a larger world map?

Someone else mentioned it before I have to concur that the game would be a lot more fun if there were more provinces to show all the minor regional conflicts in Greece, Germany, France etc. Doing this on the current map however would result in a lot of squinting and therefore a map 2-3 times larger than the current one would most likely be in order.

I don't think you'll need to worry about new maps coming. They'll pop up eventually since there are many sharing your thoughts.

However they require a lot of work, since not only the map has to be made (which is a lot in itself), but it has to get balanced as well.

I'm sure we'll have good, large maps in time though. Things like maps always tend to pop up.

I think he meant larger map as in keeping the current map, just increasing the scope of it greatly so each region is broken down into more provinces and increased in size accordingly (think zoom), rather than expanding it outward like most people have talked about.

Adding in eastern provinces up through russia/india is certainly doable and probably not difficult, but redoing the current map as is for more than a few regions (i'm thinking of greece that really needs the boost here...) and increasing it size in that respect will be near impossible.

I might be wrong, but I think expanding the map would per default require zooming out thus reducing provinces sizes. That would make some minor provinces (Malta) unclickable. But removing those could be a sacrifice worth making.

Yeah I was talking about zooming in, so Malta would become bigger rather than smaller. Greece in particular could be brought up to a size where you can actually get some fights for territory in between the different city states.

You couldn't change the actual mapsize in EU3 so there is a big risk it isn't possible here either. The provinces are rather large though so you could probably divide them and just zoom in more to click.

The easy solution is just dividing the existing provinces into more. That will mean that each province gets smaller though which might be an issue with the already small Greek provinces. The other solution is enlarging the entire map first, which means that you will lose provinces along the edges, since the map resolution properly have to stay the same.

Keep up th great work!!

So the only solution becomes a distorted map similar to the ones made for Civ III (or was it II) which increase the land mass at the expense of water and less used provinces?

And I take it the map resolution definition isn't as simple as a one line in the .exe?

Don't know about the exe file. Could be. Be sure to let us know if you find out. :)

But short of modding the exe a distorted map might be the solution, if you want more land.
