This is the continuation of my Super Ultra Mega Campaign. While I admit it is much less super than I originally intended, I would still call it ultra mega :) .

Part 1 of Super Ultra Mega Campaign AAR

Notes About Current State of Campaign:

Since I can't respond in Part I because I can't post there yet... I will respond here.

Because I had never played the first game Spartan, and I played it on impossible I only just managed to survive. This survival was done through consistently bribing Rome and others in a very long and strong alliance.

When I converted to Rome Total War Mod EB, Rome's AI took over and it is very bad about ending strong alliances, and has no real regard for loyalty or anything like that. So, because I had only one city if I built any kind of army I went into debt. Thus I was destroyed.
The AI wasn't "smart" as it could have swooped in and take n me out in the first couple of turns, instead it let me muck around for 75 years until it destroyed me.

As I don't want to stop the campaign, an interesting scenario that I have imagined or chosen to do is break away from the empire later in history. The perfect environment to stage such a break way is Crusader Kings, as it lets me play as county that can accomplish such a thing. Also realistically this is the time that the eastern empire, now Byzantium, was crumbling and therefore a perfect time to emerge again.

I realize this is mildly disappointing, and not as "Super Ultra Mega," but I have learned a few lessons from this innovative endeavor and I plan on pursuing future Super Ultra Mega campaigns with other games in new ways.

This Campaign However will continue through all the Paradox Games, and I fell that the story thus far has purpose and entertainment value enough to justify the reemergence of the Spartans.

Plan on getting this first chapters of the Crusader Kings continuation of the Super Ultra Mega Campaign very soon.

Welcome to the forums, CrazedClown. Be interesting to see which county you play on the Crusader Kings stage of your megacampaign, and how you pull it off. Good luck with the AAR!

Fantastic, another campaign through the ages! I will be following this, especially since I have the feeling your game will develop different than the average CK game. :)

Chapter III: Sparta Returns

Once again the people of the region find themselves in dire straits. A small and humble county, Monemvasia is suffering under a duke and an emperor, it lives as a painful contrast to their noble history. Our goal (and my objective) in Crusader Kings is to break way from the Byzantine Empire, becoming independent, and to grow to a reasonable size to be converted into euII. I must also survive of course.
The county does at least turn a profit, and is under the protection of the empire.

Just as I was settling into my command, our ruling duke, along with others, breaks away from the Byzantines a mere 2 years into the game. He immediately begs for the use of my troops, but I refuse. I had some plans of taking over the home front while his armies were abroad, but before the Duke leaves the Byzantines offer peace and he is now free to rule as he wishes.

Years of plotting against his lord is halted when the county leader realizes that his wife is sterile. The villagers are less than surprised when the news of her death reaches them in their hovels. But finally after a few tense years a son is born and the county leader can relax and concentrate on achieving freedom from an oppressive lord.

In 1096, after months of debating with his counsel our lord claims lands in the neighboring Methone and prepares his great scheme. Dauid Batatzes, our leader, will forever be remembered in history as the first truly successful ruler in over 1000 years. He was quite crafty, and the scheme in 1096 was his masterwork.

After declaring war on Albania, drawing his Duke into war with him, Dauid sat his armies idle in the garrison while his liege marched off to war. After Dauid believed the duke to be a suitable distance away he struck Methone easily claming it for himself.

With the added units from methone the Duke’s returning war party was unable to stop the civil war.

A white peace was drawn up, and the region surrounding the legendary Sparta was once again free after a thousand years of dominance.

The years that followed were simply filled with signing a peace with Albania for both Dauid and the evil Duke of the Peloponnesos.

Dauid, though desperate to snatch the Duke’s title away, was not a foolish man. He knew that the two provinces he controlled were not equal to those of the dukes, and the forces he could summon were still substantially greater. But fortune smiled upon him.

As Dauid outlived the remaining vassal of the Duke, it became apparent that the heir to the vassal’s control was a foolish and stupid boy. Quick action was taken and the army was called to arms.

The foolish young enemy commander lead his army to a broken defeat. And his county was gained by Dauid and the warriors, who by now were fully embracing their identity as the descendents of Spartans.

Now, controlling more of the Peloponnesos than the Duke himself, the title was usurped and Dauid gained the dukedom.

The now powerless former duke accepted vassilization under Dauid.

(I had a few opportunities to expand here, but I am taking it slow and not being greedy, as I want to have a stirring campaign all the way into HoI2.)

In the year 1112, the Great Dauid died and his talented son Manuel took the Dukedom. But the people of the region were once again free and the legend of the Spartan warriors was reborn, and it would continue to grow… muahaha.

Ah... a Spartan AAR.

Great start so far! I agree with Lord Valentine, it's surprising you managed to conquer four provinces with just one, Spartan warriors or no Spartan warriors. Still, now that you've got the entire Peloponnesos under your belt, you should have a little more strategic depth.

Also, what's your badboy rate by this time? When I broke white peaces and annexed provinces of the same religion my badboy went through the roof (which wasn't a good thing since I was playing a king, and all of a sudden all my dukes and earls hated me).

Still - can't wait to see where Sparta goes next.

I predict that Mongols smash you to bits, because that would be ironical continuation of your fate in RTW. ;)

Good luck, whichever infidels decide to try and annihilate your empire. ;)

After a few short years, the old duke, grew rebelious and had to be eliminated. The new Greece has no room for sad and bitter men.

As the Byzantine empire continued to crumble, the Spartans had learned their lesson and would never again allow themselves to be surrounded. So instead of waiting for the worst we fought back, growing our terriortory even further.

As the war pushed on I ran into a big issue. I was gaining a few terrirtoyrs, and winning. But I didn’t have enough piety to ask for or accept peace with a pagan. And every time I almost had enough some stupid event would rob me of all my piety. So the war pushed on into 1121. So the second I finish the church and have the piety to deal with pagans, I get a message… perfect. Thank you dirty pagan, how nice.

As the old king dies out, another takes the throne and I am begging to notice a trend in the family… we have sweet diplomacy traits. The new king has 20 diplomacy, even more than his father.

Greece had not seen this success in a millennium. We are at peace, with no looming threats (knock on wood) and each and every province turns a profit. The people are all content and even the talented heir to the throne is running the small country very neatly. Here I attempted to be realistic and ride out this content happy feeling without any war mongering….

About 10 years later I can’t resist and easy grab and Spartans invade Crete. But stinky prince of the Ageans takes the opportunity to steal provinces while we fight the armies! How dare he! He must be crushed….

ck3vc6.jpg

The war is one and I have taken the princes title.

A few years later a pagan faction is gaining too strong a foothold to the north in Macedon and the Spartans choose to strike while the iron is hot, cutting of their head while they are sizable enough to be dealt with.

As soon as the war is called, our king instantly dies for no reason and some of my provinces rebel. A choice is made to hold onto the counties on the peninsula and relinquish control of the surrounding islands. The major battle is at hand and the king takes on a superior force while waiting for the thousands of reinforcements to arrive from the south. An all men to arms call was made and every one who can pick a sword is called into service for the defense of the homeland…

Plain and simple.. they didn’t arrive in time, the lord frantically retreated and the line was reestablished to the south. We need 25 piety again to make peace with more stinky pagans. Damn my forgetfulness.

After I realize that creating a bishopric raises piety, I could then get peace easily…. Whew.

Holdings at the end of all the wars:

Years of peace were to follow, but more excitement lies ahead.

An interesting AAR..full of commitment, what are the limits your setting on yourself?

Good job so far! You have already united most of Greece under your Spartan banner! But what happened to the Byzantine Empire? Was it completely crushed like it very often happens in the 1066 scenario? And if yes do you plan to recreate it one day? :)

~Lord Valentine~

Sweet! And nice job in Greece. Perhaps the peninsula is all yours next...
