Sorry for all interested this first post is gonna be a wall of text.

Hi everyone this will be my 2nd AAR. My original was abandoned due to lack of interest and that I had no idea what it takes to make an AAR successful. Well, now I do know. Im going to be using the HOI2 Modern Day Setting mod. Its a great mod and pretty realistic. Im going to be playing the US, since after I tried to play Germany I felt pigeonholed into the EU (whereas I wanted to split with the EU and wanted to join up with NATO.) I will be seeking to lure Brazil into NATO, if I can accomplish that goal, even if the world blows up around me, I feel this AAR will be successful.

For the moment, I command the largest Military in the world, the most up to date one, and probably have the most IC of any country in the world. I have the UK and Australia at my side, and I feel confident that if things stir up in any area of the world, I should be very comfortable in my ability to handle any or all crises involving my allies.

I will treat the relationship with the UK as if the UK were Canada (eg I will defend them until the end of the world.) I will, if possible switch Presidents as soon as possible, and I aim to maintain my strong relationship with Australia.

If you arent interested in this AAR by benefit of me being the US and you know how History went in real life, then trust me, things are gonna be different.

Happy reading :D!

Off to whup the North Ko-reans! YEEEEHAAAA! :D

Operation Iraqi Freedom

The US/British/Australian invasion of Iraq commences. 265 thousand Coalition begin their march to Baghdad to topple Saddam Hussein and end his attempt to acquire nuclear weapons.

US troops taking up positions around Basrah preparing to enter the city.

As Coalition forces begin their march to Baghdad there is little resistance in their way as the fabled Republican Guard of the Iraqi Army is smashed to pieces.

Joint American-British troops, the elite SAS and the American 3rd Army prepare to enter As Salman.

When asked for comment, American General Thomas Franks stated "The road to Baghdad will be hard, certainly, but I feel confident in our troops ability to handle whatever tasks they may be asked to accomplish"

Coalition Air power pounds Iraqi positions and the campaign ends in less than 2 months. American troops suffer one defeat, at Tikrit, after being improperly organized. A change in Leadership, and a month later, Tikrit is Coalition.

After the victory in Iraq, America looks forward to an era of peace, and helping the Iraqi's rebuild the immense destruction coalition Air power has wrought on Iraq.

With the fall of Baghdad, the Australian Army leaves Iraq, and the Coalition of the Willing only now contains 2 nations, the US and UK. Because of heavy losses inflicted upon the Coalition Armies in the Battle of Baghdad, Americans and British will need to devote a lot of time to reinforcing their positions in Iraq.

With the defeat, in full, of the Iraqi Army, America is left with several difficult choices.

Some of which being, if the old corrupt Iraqi Army should be kept in place, and how to deal with the rapidly rearming Iran.

Thanks for all who have been reading, I really appreciate the comments, and as I guess you well know, im not the best writer so this AAR will likely be pic heavy. I have never completed a game of MDS before so I have no idea how this is gonna go, im not even sure how to trigger some events, so I hope for those of you who havent been interested in MDS before, this will be the thing that grabs youre interest in it. Im working hard on the next update, hopefully the writing will be nominally better, typically with me once I get past that initial intro to whats going on I will be able to make better posts.

I will follow this. I do have a question.

Why did you repeat this part twice?

Oops, sorry I meant to move it from where it was and wanted to put it somewhere else. Thanks!

From here on out any typos I make or whatever, please point em out to me, i really appreciate it!

Thanks for the comments. Currently im trying to decide if the state of affairs of the world in 2003 deserves an update or not, theres nothing really interesting to post considering most of my events have been about deciding the Iraqi occupation issues.

Unless it impacts your storyline, I don't think you need to mention everything that is going on in the world.

Mission Accomplished

President Bush's famous Mission Accomplished speech, announcing the end of major combat operations in Iraq. Dated May 1st 2003.

US troops taking up occupying positions and preparing to help rebuild the country. After a month and a half war, with very little actual action by the Coalition ground forces. Coalition Air Power is credited with destroying at least 10 tank brigades of the Iraqi Army. Round the clock sorties flown by A10 Warthog pilots were crucial in achieving such a massive level of success against the Iraqi tanks and Republican Guard mechanized units.

Said a captured Iraqi Tanker of the constant ground "The American planes were relentless, I certainly felt as if the aerial bombardment of our tank brigades were similar to what happened at Normandy and the subsequent battles where a good percentage of German panzer strength was rendered immovable by constant Air attack."

The plane that many think won the war for the Coalition forces.

And a quick status update post.

The date in game now is September 13th 2004, Presidential Elections are coming up. Im currently wooing India and Brazil. I created Iraq without a hitch, and British troops have left the country. Evidently, since the occupation zone of Iraq event didnt fire, Australia will be remaining in the Coalition Alliance.

Romania joined NATO on March 28th 2004. China whined about Japanese fishermen, and then got Japan to deport said fishermen.

I declined the North Korean attempt to extort me out of 1000$ in exchange for their joining a NAP with me. Sorry for anyone who wanted that to happen, I just could not see Bush giving in to North Korea, even in OTL where he is more willing to deal with "Axis of Evil" countries. Iran never offered me the Persian Gambit event, so ill be attacked sporadically by Iranian funded adversaries. November elections are coming up, and im not sure if I want to switch to Kerry. Either way, there will be a major cabinet shakeup. I sent aid to Iran after the Bam earthquake. I am wooing Germany to again become a friend of the US.

Russia is posturing again and its getting frustrating. Im not going to do anything about that though.

The effects of the difficulty and peacetime economy are really frustrating my effort to make the USN able to operate in 3 major sea zones at once. I have to keep a large naval deployment in the Persian Gulf to help supply my troops, I have to keep a sizable deployment in Japan to keep China, which is casting an eager look to Taiwan, at bay. And I need, also and most importantly, to keep South America safe.

For right now, American dollars are keeping democracy safe in South America. One of my main goals, going into the AAR, to get Brazil into NATO, is more or less, barring a major coup by Venezuela, a lock now.

The events in Kosovo that derailed my previous German game passed without much ado. But as always, the Balkans are a powderkeg, and I fear a major development there.

I am developing 2 Aircraft Carriers, which I will rename at a later date. That is where all my IC is right now, and will remain until mid 2006, when they are finished. I am researching upgrading my armored brigades, and even offering Americans alternative energy sources.

The Future Soldier program is going pretty strong, ive researched 2 of those upgrades already.

And, the AI glitch that frustrated the hell out of me? Britain's landing ships in Iraq, all in all 3 transport ships and like 2 corvettes, sunk because the British AI could not think to dock in Dubai.

Thanks for reading the status update and the main post guys, I should have a real, pic filled update tomorrow. In my previous 2 MDS games, 2005 always proved to be a really eventful year. It may well be make or break for the new relationships with India and Brazil :O

Actually never seen a US MDS, and I've never been able to play it because I don't own Doomsday/Armageddon. God, I hope they come out with a conversion of it for DH.

Anyway, I will be watching! :D

Just a quick, not even gonna call this an update, update.

I looked at the events for Iraq, and realized that by making Iraq independent, I in effect ruined the event chain. So, ill have to reload the save prior to making them independent, and go from there. Luckily, I do have a save where I had just captured Baghdad, so it should be relatively easy to go from there.

2004 Presidential Elections

In a stunning move by the American Public, Ralph Nader is elected President. Some analysts seem to think this move was in direct response to George Bush's late decision to go to the negotiating table with the Islamic Republic of Iran, and recognize Iran's right to a nuclear programme. All in all, everyone is shocked when they wake up to find the underdog Green Party man out of Winsted Connecticut has actually won this thing.

Some pundits believe that President Bush's policy of interventionism and engagement with India, particularly on the issues discussed in that infamous 2004 meeting with Mr. Vajpay, where they allegedly discussed broad Military cooperation, was a huge part of the Americans decision.

Clearly, today, the American people have made a strong statement that while they may tolerate the occupations in Iraq and Afghanistan, they will not stand for a increasingly hostile discourse.

The first day on the job, President Nader signified to Israel that the special relationship she once had with Republican Presidents, is now over.

While the US will maintain its Gulf presence, Israel will not be the stalwart ally it had been the past 25 years.

President Nader also stated that the US would work with the G8 to reduce global CO2 emissions, even if it cost the US quite a large sum of money. In explaining his decision, the President stated that "The US has always been huge in everything, you know? We are a Super Power. I believe, that if its in our power to ensure our Children can live in this world, and have the life that we did, that our parents did, that their parents did, it is our moral obligation to stand up against rampant global warming."

In his final remarks of his Inaugural address, he promised to cut military spending by at least 20 percent, and restore Civil liberties taken away during the Bush Presidency.

Prime Minister of England, Mr. Blair was positively incensed at the development, stating

" I went into Iraq under President Bush's advice. I expected him to win a 2nd term. Now, I dont know what the fate of the United Kingdom's involvement in the Iraq Occupation will be. This is such a terrible day for the United Kingdom, I cannot believe this has happened!"

Ariel Sharon, Head of State of Israel, echoed him. " I dont know how Israel will handle this development in Washington."

President Putin of the Russian Federation was very happy regarding the election of Nader. "Over the past 4 years, I squabbled with George on many occasions. The election of President Nader will, hopefully bring a new era for Russian-American relations. I hope to, in the coming weeks discuss a new START treaty with him, and hopefully have a possible ratification on that issue in the coming weeks."

No partisan problem with an independent Iraq?

Iraq has been un independented and replaced with a partially free Iraq with America controlling a few occupation zones. On the downside, we gave up several brigades of tanks. On the upside, we got an Iraq with, well, several tank brigades, and 3 great Generals. And on the other hand, we got an Iran that promised to help us fight Hezbollah and Hamas, and a non Aggression pact with Iran.

Very interesting indeed. Wonder how this will change future events, if at all? :p

Also, just a suggestion/request, could we see your disposition of airforces, warships and ground units around the globe?
