Hi,

Just curious - how come Russia, currently being one of the most advanced space nations (launches, engines, tech etc) gets only 2 missiles and such low funding? Even India is "easier" :)

Thanks

or well the fact that today the americans dont really have a space program, nasa has no rockets or anything able to reach space... they have to buy that from the russians.

Yeah :) Even if we are talking about an imaginary future, where EU and USA make a comeback - I still can't really see Russia becoming last, after India / a private corp.

Isn't Russia spending most of its money on the military nowadays and cutting into the space agency budget like the US is?

Well, space is indeed on low priority world wide, not only in Russia, but the thing is Russia has a lot of tech devellopements (even from the soviet era, a lot of stuff was designed but never implemented) on which it can rely on. The US buy rocket engines from Russia as they have the best cost/weight/risk ratio currently avaliable. And there are quite a few projects for the next stages of rocket science :)

But we digress, I was really talking about the fact that even in an imaginary universe putting an advanced country on the lowest tech stage felt a bit weird.

Alright. Well, as I imagine in, every sponsor is setting up a colony on Mars, you're just the first. Which could mean that Russia is not very invested or interested in putting much of a bet on it. Nothing to do with tech or money, just a meh idea.

Agreed that it is kind of odd they chose Russia as one of the hard countries. I would have expected a space agency from more of a developing country to be the hardest mode. Perhaps Brazil.

Considering the US is just behind International, I'm pretty sure they're just basing it off of general pop culture. Russians never got to the Moon despite currently being a taxi service for NASA but most people don't acknowledge that and are still in the clouds over the Cold War glory days.

I don't like it personally since India is still a nuclear-powered third world country, them landing on Mars before the Russians is a joke and a half.
The list also doesn't account for first world countries cough Australia cough that are currently in the process of establishing a space agency, which you'd think would be taken into account since the game is set in the future and not in the present.

Yeah, imo the three hardest options should be India, the private corp and the religious sect thingy. International and, yeah ok, NASA (we still want to sell the game, right? :) ) should be easy, and EU / China / Russia - I'd put them into "normal" category, each with its own bonuses/disadvantages.

Also hope for a different design, current rockets look like orcas (Free Willy! :) )

I think they should keep Russia as hard, since unlike the US and China they are not interested in advancing science in space. India should at least be the hardest though, since they have never heard of the concept of "Health and Safety in the workplace".

Not true. Roscosmos is interested in both starting a robotic Lunar colony as well as sending a lander to Venus. They're especially sick of running a taxi service for the ISS and aspire to do more important work.

I agree, different countries should have different designs. I really don't think all of these different countries are all going to copy Space-X.

otoh looking at russias bonus it looks like russia in the game is supposed to be a bit of humorous option in that it synergies well with a oligarch leader.... ie an oligarch's own private project. I suppose that would merge pretty well with "the last war" or how mr oligarch just knows humanity wont last long on earth so better get somewhere else.

Hi,

This was actually somewhat of a meta decision. We know that Russian gamers often like their games as challenging as possible so we though many of them will appreciate the extra challenge for their national sponsor. It is certainly not a statement for the "spacefaring prowess" of Russia.
