A rather bizarre technical problem?

Two nights ago I was giving out about the battle mechanics in Rome went to bed and the next day my computer would not start, it would freeze where you see the indicator for windows loading. I could boot into safe mode but could not find the problem, in the end after many hours I decided to roll back my windows to a earlier date, but still no luck finally I decided to take out one of my graphics cards as I had some indication it was a hardware problem. This seemed to fix the issue.

Now I am not saying that because I gave out about Rome that the Gods turned against me but the strangest thing is that everything did seem to be fine until I noticed that my Rome.exe file was gone, it had completely vanished all the other files are still there. Also my EU3\NA launcher now wont work.

Could anyone explain to me how this could happen? I can only think that going back to an earlier date (a month) affected both these games but why? I must admit I find these things suspicious.

Edit: by the way I run XP and reinstalling both games should not be a problem. What I would like to know in particular is why would my Rome.exe vanish because of a roll back.. Has this anything to do with some sort of security monitoring both games and the roll back affected this? Very odd..

Ah I see now what has happened I never used system restore before so I think it will remove I guess the most recent .exe files but leave alone your folders. Rome.exe just happens to be one of them.

So much for my conspiracy theory. One broken graphics card though. :(

Reinstalled Rome still a problem with the launcher. Any thoughts of how restoring windows to a earlier date could have a negative affect on the launcher for Rome and EU3 ?

Has the launcher anything to do with Microsft.Net framework 1.1?

Any ideas about this both my launchers wont work.

make sure that windows deleted the rome folder when it uninstalled. It might have gotten confused. if its doesnt, delete it yourself (make sure you move any savegames you want saved).

Well I think I did everything correctly I always put games in my own game folder so I know whats happening.

The weird thing is that the EU3\NA launcher does not work as well and that was fine and never touched.

The reason I asked about MS.Net framework 1.1 was with all my messing around with my graphics card I had a handling error with this file ? I have a vague recollection that this had to be installed for EU3 so would it be possible that if something was wrong with this file it could affect the launchers.

I havent a clue what it does or if I am barking up the wrong tree but I better ask.

No it did not work but I think it still has something to do with the .net framework which is a bugger to un\re- install or even fix.

Where are the files for the launcher kept when you restore windows it will sometimes rename files that it needs to keep.

Mind you I think its getting close to the day I will need a new hard drive and reorganise everything from scratch.
