I might be a little late with this suggestion since King of Kings was released over a year ago, but I still have some hope that this can be implemented in a patch. I have a few ideas for a small "Roman update."

I know we got some additional flavor for the Byzantine Empire, but there are still a few small things that need improvement.

First is the permanent claim gains on "Magna Graecia."

In the mission tree, you get claims on Southern Italy, including Sicily, but not the region of "Campania"?

This doesn’t make any sense, as Naples was founded by Greek colonists as "Neapolis" (New City) and served as an important Greek Byzantine trade city until the Norman invasion.

My other suggestion would be a renaming decision or mission tree for Byzantium to become the Eastern Roman Empire in a new way. Currently to achieve this, you would need to conquer both Northern and Southern Italy, along with Illyria, (which doesn't make any sense) culminating in the final mission, "Justinian's Ambition."

This doesn't make any sense, as the "Eastern Roman Empire" never held Italy or Illyria before. This means I could control Greece, Italy, and Illyria and rename Byzantium to the Eastern Roman Empire without holding any of the true Eastern Roman provinces (Bulgaria, Albania, Anatolia, Syria, Egypt, Cyrenaica, the Aegean Islands, Cyprus, etc.).

This is well represented in Crusader Kings III, where you can restore the Theodosian Borders through a decision, which literally requires the original lands of the Eastern Roman Empire (mainly the regions listed above).

Additionally, seeing the "Coptic" culture reappear on the map after retaking Egypt would be a nice touch.

So how to rename Byzantium to the "Eastern Roman Empire"?

Secure Greece --> Recover Albania, Recover Bulgaria --> Recover Serbia and Montenegro
Secure Greece --> Recover the Aegean Islands, Recover Cyprus
Recover the Aegean Islands, Recover Cyprus --> Recover the Western-Anatolian holdings -->Recover the Pontic Coastline--> Recover Crimea, Recover Lazica and Abkhazia
Recover Cyprus --> Recover the Southern Anatolian coastline--> Recover Middle and Eastern Anatolia --> Revenge for Manzikert
Recover Cyprus --> Recover Syria --> Recover Jerusalem, Sinai --> Recover Egypt--> Recover Cyrenaica

BOOOM Rename to "Eastern Roman Empire"

So my suggestion would be to move the "Justinian's Ambition" mission under the "Into Aegyptus" mission, or simply separate the renaming option from the "Justinian's Ambition" mission. The renaming of Byzantium to the Eastern Roman Empire could instead be made a decision requiring control of the following lands:

Another suggestion would be to introduce a new tag called the "Western Roman Empire." It's safe to say there were several attempts throughout history, starting with the Franks, to restore the "Western Roman Empire." It would be exciting to see a new, greater tag that could work toward restoring the Roman Empire to its former glory.

One suggestion:

Other suggestion: (greatest extent in Germania)

What would this tag offer?

Well, we already have a "pan-Slavic" experience as Russia, where you can unite the Western, Eastern, and South Slavs under the large "Slavic" culture group, fulfilling one of Russia's historical political ambitions.

It would be amazing to see a united "Latin" group, combining the French, Iberian, and Latin culture groups into a single "Romance" culture group. This would make spreading the "Roman" culture much easier after restoring the Roman Empire.

Just imagine these three large culture groups unified under one banner, which could later be converted to "Roman" with a single decision.

Which countries could restore the "Western Roman Empire"?

Any country with a culture in the Iberian, Latin, or French culture groups could do it. Also the HRE should not be existed, or you should be the emperor of the HRE

You could achieve this as France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Aragon, Leon, Gascony etc or even the Angevin Empire—but not as England.

As for the "Roman" culture: please move it out of the "Lost Culture Group" and into the "Byzantine" culture group, or consider renaming the "Byzantine" culture group to "Roman Culture Group" and merging the two. After all, they both viewed themselves as "Roman."

Thank you for reading my post!
