So I had decided that I would play as Tywin during Roberts Rebellion and try my very best to get the glory house Lannister deserves and by taking the Iron Throne for Tywin himself however I encountered a few problems and added a awesome narrative to the game so think of this as some kind of AAR if you will. So first of all I set myself a few rules:
1: Play out as Tywin and don't do anything he wouldn't I.E. marry a six year old.
2: If possible Tywin should take the Throne and the long run is to get the Throne.
3: House Lannister above all.
So the game started off fairly normal, I joined King Aerys with the intent of Crushing the rebellion to gain favor with the king and to curb 4 of the other Lords. The war went fairly well, King Robert was killed and Stannis gained the Stormlands, Hoster was blinded and the Vale was left to bent the Knee, somehow the North gained independence (Not sure how mind you) Tywin also became cruel due to an imprisonment event. Anyway with the war won I began controlling the Westerlands, I then re obtained Brightroar but at the cost of Tywin becoming Craven an so trying to play as the character I acted in this manner and kept Tywin away from battle if possible. It was during the ruling as well that Tywin became stressed so again played that out. Then it was time to forge alliances, first of all I married Cersei to Stannis to gain the aid of the Stormlands... and then things started to go down hill... Balon Greyjoy had declared independence and while we were able to win the war it came at great cost, both Stannis and Jaime were killed by Balon's army and as a result I alliance and my good fighting son.
However this did not distraught me and so then I married Cersei to Renly to get the Stormlands back and then... ANOTHER REBELLION! Riverlands, Stormlands, Vale and Dorne (Which should be noted that Ellia was Lady of and Tyrion was betrothed to her daughter) rose up to fight King Aerys, this war resulted in 2 things: The Stormlands was taken away from Renly and for some strange reason King Aerys murdered Elia and Raegars Children killing off my betrothed to Tyrion... So I had lost two alliances and most of the Kingdom now hated Aerys, I married Tyrion to a Stark daughter and Cersei (Who had been through 2 husbands now) to Wilas of the Reach, Tywin was still stressed and cruel so I assumed that all of this trauma had taken its toll on him and that he just wanted things to go right for once and in his hasty decision he had Aery's assassinated to boost the stability of the realm and so that another war wouldn't be declared and more allies lost however this assassination was detected and now Tywin was dishonorable and deceitful pushing my dream of the Throne further away as I had made an enemy of the new king.
This started the reign of Rhaegar and would come back to haunt Tywin, Rhaegar than decided to invade the independent North and ally of the Lannisters. The North was lost not matter what I could do and Eddard was murdered and the North taken away from his son, destroying my ally and preventing another and Rhaegar kept the North for himself. But Rhaegar wasn't satisfied with just the North and because of the murder of his father and crimes against the realm he demanded the Westerlands. I had 2 choices: Fight and die or surrender. I chose the first and believed that the few allies I had (The Reach and a few dukes in the North) could help me stand a chance. However none of them responded and I was forced to surrender. Imprisoned, Tywin sent his best fighter to defend his honour in a trial by combat, the combatant: Lord Jon Arryn the man who questioned the Kings fathers honour was now defending it against Lord Tywin, the man who stood for it. However luck favoured me and my champion slew Lord Arryn, perhaps this was an omen? That the tables will soon turn and that Tywin will become the man he once was.
However Tywin needed security, he had lost his proud trait and no longer cared about his holds or family and so in his deceitful nature he had all questioning lords and kinsmen murdered such as Lancell Lannister who was the Lord of Golden Tooth (I believe may have been another one) and who plotted to murder me. After the Westerlands were deemed safe Tywin wanted vengeance and so he fabricated claims that King Rhaegar Targaryen was a bastard, this claim was strong an supported by many lords including the High Septon himself, it seemed that the King who tried to take my lands away and leave me powerless was about to be destroyed and that I would have revenge and that I could finally have the Kingdom! But again things took a turn for a worst, after the fabrication some dukes in the North rebelled and I saw my time to strike.
I declared war and was to depose of the King infavour of his brother, who I intended to murder and marry his young sister to my young grandson. This was clearly an insane plan and it made sense as Tywin was, yes he had gained the Lunatic trait somehow to my luck... Tywin believed that the Lords and his allies the Tyrells would join him in his fight as it was clear the King was wrong and a tyrant and needed to be stopped. But no one joined, Tywin was left to fight the crown by himself and of course he was doomed, I lost and was put in jail where his bitter enemy had him killed.
And that is how I failed, that is how bad luck and rash decisions caused Tywin to go insane in his attempt for the throne and this is what I love about this mod and CK 2 it allows a story to be made up along what happens and although what happens may be unbelievable the narrative of this game is superb and it does it without having a story at all, just Lords trying to get to the top.
