hi guys, this is my first aar, i have been modding ai's for HOI for the last 6 months or so, so i have decided to start my very first aar.

it is actually going to be in two parts both starting 1936, one nationalist chinese and one japanese aar...

there has been quite many complains about militia units so far...
so i have decided to test what would happen if you gave militia units the same stats as regular inf except for manpower, org and movement rates(!)

i have also modded a few of the ai files... though nothing that should affect the game too much...

and to balance the chinese power (lots of provinces although low IC) i have decided to up the decent from 8 to 40(!) to curb the power a little

ill be brief and to the point here, not much story telling and pictures but more TOE's and status reports to show the effects of the modifications.

got a bit delayed by some incidents... not to worry... ill get this aar started soon enough
!-might change this...

due to some minor problems... sort of... i had to format and reinstall all... including all the changes and what i had made so far of my aar...

but not to worry too much... im back online and i have restarted all my modding again... hopefully ill get my first real update later this week (end)

sucks but thats life...

regards
PB (EVIL Overlord)

allrighty...

first off i plan to follow the historical path where possible, also to avoid crushing the ai by cutting ai forces off and eliminating them in detail i will limit myself to a continous front strategy... (surcide... i know ;))

planed to run this as normal/normal but... vh/f sounds a bit more interesting... but since im allready limiting myself i guess n/n is more reasonable.

Annual Report, Jan 1936

Military situation

1. balance of forces

Code:
	| nationalist chinese | communist chinese | japanese |

infantry 15 | 3 | 40
militia 34 | 2 | 3
cavalry 4 | 0 | 9
moterized 0 | 0 | 5
tanks 1 | 0 | 0
marines 0 | 0 | 0
mountain 0 | 1 | 0

fighters 1 | 0 | 0
tactical bombers	1 | 0 | 5
dive bombers 1 | 0 | 0
naval bombers 1 | 0 | 1
torpedo bombers 0 | 0 | 1
strategic bombers	0 | 0 | 0
air-transports 0 | 0 | 0

battleships 0 | 0 | 10
cruisers 8 | 0 | 38
destroyers 2 | 0 | 20
carriers 0 | 0 | 5
submarines 0 | 0 | 10
transports 0 | 0 | 20

2. deployment of friendly forces
as there is no changes here i will add them a bit later.

3. deployment of hostile and neutral forces
as there is no changes here i will add them a bit later.

4. plan of action
short term
a. (com chin) Fighting in mountains are very costly and you need to have and enormous advatage in numbers... something the nationals have but have spread out all over china... but since ill try to crush the commies as soon as it is possible prepare for operation: HILLBILLY
b. there are no other directly hostile states at the moment so no other plans are planned

5. other
still low tech wise so any operations that i have to undertake must have a decisive superiority in numbers...
the airforce is more like an air farce but it exists and hopefully it will be improved and expanded before china faces anything but the communist chinese hillbillies ;)
the navy... well if they got a few transports then maybe it could be used to cover an operation against siam later... but it is useless in any other respect as the third largest navy is right next door and most ships in the chinese navy is from the great war...

The Civil Affairs

The Social Situation
the country is currently in turmoil as the peasants are grumbling loudly...
the secret police is reporting an approximately 45% dissent.

The economic situation
a lot of small time factories and industries dot all of china but there output is very low only shanghai and chongqing and a few provinces in the south near the coast have any real industrial facilities.
total IC is 111 (before dissent and upgrades)
(edit later with other totals and other stuff)

The political situation
China (nationalists) is currently fighting a civil war with the communists.
manchuria is puppeted by japan who also controls a large part of northern china.
japan are currently at peace with us, but that peace is probably not going to last very long...

The techonological situation
china has many troubles, one of them is that china is behind the times... still armed with older weapons bought from the western nations after the great war... weapons that are now older than most of the conscripts in the army... still functional though ;)
china do have a relativly modern but small airforce equiped with pre-war aircrafts...

up next
operation hillbilly

(still have a bit more to edit here but it will have to wait a bit)

Operation Hillbilly

January 1st. 0000 GMT HQ China, Nanjing city

FM Chiang Kai-Shek addresses a motley collection of old uniformed people, also known as Field marshals. as dawn breaks though the windows of the slightly rundown castle that is being used as the Chinese Central HQ (HQ China)

FM C.K-S.: "Alright people, listen up! today we are starting the build up for operation Hillbilly, the main aim for this operation is to wipe out the rebellion by Mao. in order to assure the success of this operation we will use most of our assets including our southern armies and our central reserves. my aides will now distribute hard copies of time tables, you will do best to read them as the operation will commence on january 18th when all armies have moved to their starting positions... when you have all read the texts i will answer your questions"

as the noise level started to rise in the room C. K-S. stod up.

FM C.K-S.: "Now gentlemen do you have any questions?"

General Von Falkenhausen got up

Gen V.F.: "I have just gotten back from inspecting the northern boarders, most of your troops are militia and many dont even have modern equipment and training, Xianyang and yanan provinces are very mountainous and will pose a considerable opstacle to both logistics and operations... air operations will also be hampered by the mountains... in short it is going to get very bloody once the armies engage"

FM C.K-S.: "yes thank you for your insight... Germany is fortunate to have officers of your caliber... I am in need of competent FM's... therefore im promoting you and putting you in charge of the operations directed against Yanan."

FM V.F. "...Thank you it is an Honor..."

FM C.K-S.: "Meeting adjurned, to your posts gentlemen"

several officers started to complain, discuss, moan and raise their voices.

FM C.K-S.: "OR I WILL HAVE YOU SHOT BEFORE NOON!"

the room clears quickly, the last to leave is a couple of elderly officers huffing and puffing from the exercise...

March 14
Chinese Daily News

...Today our beloved leader sent peace envoys to the rebel leaders in Yanan province as a gesture of peace and reconsiliation...

...All operations in Yanan and Xianyang provences have been halted as soldiers celebrated the event and our glorious leader Chian Kai-Shek...

...hopes of peaceful reintegration have been voiced by several leading members of the concil...

...Lin Sen, our beloved head of state, is reported to have said that he now have high hopes for the future of china...

...Chiang Kai-Shek was not availble for comment at this time but we hope to bring an interview as soon as he becomes availble...

June 1st, Nanjing province, private residence of Chiang Kai-Shek

Chiang Kai-Shek, his wife and a reporter is sitting in the garden getting served tea and biscuts by some servants, while a few children are playing in the background.

Reporter.: "how would you describe the last 6 months, my sources inform me that the mighty chinese armies were poised to strike a deadly blow to the insurgents under Mao in the yanan and xianyang province, yet you made peace on the 14th of march..."

FM C.K-S.: "well in the beginning of febuary, just as the operations were getting underway, the japanese started to mass large numbers of troops on our northern boarder, i became clear to me that i had to do something drastic soon...

mrs K-S.: "...of course we have sent peace envoys ever since this conflict started to the rebels, they finally saw the light when we showed them the reports from our northern frontier, China cannot afford to be devided against the japanese, they allready control manchuria...

Reporter.: "thank you for that bit of insight... now most of our readers would probably like to know how things are going in china... for example there was quite a lot of disturbances in many of the major cities earlier this year."

mrs K-S.: "yes, the situation is starting to become more normalized as we continue to food to the hungry and comfort to those in need, since january our dissent level has fallen from 45% to 27% while our IC has increased to 51 from 38 which i think is very nice..."

FM C.K-S.: "...yes and the manpower pool has increased to 2100 thousand."

Reporter.: "i hear that you have also made a few changes to the ministers?"

FM C.K-S.: "well yes i have so far only made one major change... i have put Chen Kuo-fu in charge of the armaments ministry."

July 19th

Chinese Daily News

...reports are comming in from spain, it seems that a general franco has started a rebellion against the republican goverment yesterday...

...he already controls madrid and several other provinces...

...the diplomatic circles in europe are very busy...

...we will get back with more news as the situation develops...

early august

...nationalists troops cut off the iberian peninsular at valencia, cutting the republicans in half...

...relative equality in number of troops prevent any rapid settlement of the conflict in Spain...

...in other news, the trench warfare continues in the etiopian mountains as italian troops are bogged down in what looks to be like a repeat of the warfare of the great war, many casuties are reported by both sides. Time will tell if the technological advantage of the Italian's will solve the conflict before chrismas...

early september

... losses continue to mount as the republicans continue their offensive against the nationalist forces, with the resent victories in valencia and the surrounding area's the nationalists have withdrawn to a defensive line behind the Tajo river...

mid November

... the italians seems to make little progress in etiopia as fronts have been delocked for quite some time now. There are rumors of italian reinforcements comming to join the expeditionary forces already there, from all over italy...

... the spanish conflict continues with another setback for the nationalists as they retreat from Zaragoza province...

...the nationalists now control only Vigo, Burgos, Valladolid, Salamanca and Madrid province...

...the republicans now have a slight advantage over the nationalist as troops continue to flock to the republican banners, last tally of divisions showed that the republicans had 2 tank divisions to the nationalists 1 and 8 regular infantry divisions to 7. Although there are many volentier divisions many does not count them in the current tally but we at CDN believe in showing all of the truth and the two sides seem to be at an impasse with both sides claiming to have 7 militia divisions...

Early december 1936, Nanking HQ

Von Falkenhausen walked up the steps to Chiang Kai-Sheks offices, pauseing only briefly to announce his arrival to the young clerk sitting at his desk outside Chiang Kai-Sheks office, knocking on the door the FM straightend his uniform and tried to give the expression of confidence despite his unrest at being called to Chiang's office in the middle of the night.

FM C.K-S.: "ENTERRRR!"

quickly stepping in though the door V.F. made a brisk walk up to Chiang's desk and saluted.

Gen V.F.: "Im here as you requested"

FM C.K-S.: "it is great that you are finally here friend of china, i have dire news, my spies tell me that the total number of divisions on the northern front has now exceeded our total number of divisions all together... it does not leave much of a doubt as to their intentions... yet sources tell me that japan still is not ready for a war on the home front... this might buy us some time but i have a very special job for you to do.

Gen V.F.: "i am ready to do as you requests... how may i be of service?"

FM C.K-S.: " i want to know just how good our troops really are... so i want you to go find out just what our capabilities are... i am particulary interested in our militia divisions... i want to know just how capable they might be if they should confront a regular japanese division..."

Gen V.F.: "i can tell you straight off that no chinese militia division could stand up to any japanese division... regular or not, most are still armed with rifles that are as old as i am... i guess you want a full report? how much time do i have to do this..."

FM C.K-S.: " i would have liked you to have lots of time but that will not be... i need your report on my disk before the 1st of january and the end of the year report..."

Gen V.F.: "... you will have the report as soon as it is done..."

December 30th

Chinese Daily News

... reports have come in from etiopia, yesterday the goverment has laid down their arms and have accepted the italian demands, they are now formally annexed into the italian empire...

...they fought for more than one year against superior numbers and against the technological superiority of the italians, inflicting heavy casualties to the italian troops...

... as the year is about to end leaders from all of China gathers in Nanjing to participate in the end of the year event and to hear what the new year brings...

...we will ofcourse bring a special report as soon as possible...

...CDN wishes you a happy new year and the best of luck in 1937...

any comments on my story telling so far?
it is the first time im ever trying to write an aar or any other kind of fiction on the net...

i have my first 'annual report' and the first story year done now (after an edit or 4... ;))

wont be adding any picture's yet but i do plan on adding one or two at some point... I have taken screenshots so it is only going to be a matter of a small edit later to add them.

p.s. don't expect too many updates soon, im just hopeing i can fit in 1 year a week (if war does not break out... ;)) for now...

I think that the way you use media to tell the story is good, although it would be better not to put edits into the same post as it will make the AAR hard to follow :)

bad news guys... my hard disk had a visit from general Error and his friend cyclic... that means that i cannot continue this aar... sucks... :(
