Normal Difficulty
Goal. Defeat the Soviets in 4 weeks (or at least capture all the relevent VP by then to trigger the BP)
Short AAR, probably a few pages long.

20th April 1941.

The Fuhrer was in good spirits. From Bermuda to the gates of India the Reich stood triumphant. It was also his birthday and he was in Berlin. Ribbentrop walked in with a smile on his face. Due to the war Ribbentrops job had become largely redundent with a few nations browbeaten into joinig the Axis. Even Mussolini had required help in North Africa with the Panzers breaking through to Iraq.

" Happy birthday Mein Fuhrer" Ribbentrop greeted Hitler. I have excellent news fromt the foreign office". He haded over an envelope. The Japanese ambassador agreed to your proposal once our troops had reached Karachi".

ScreenSave6-8.jpg

The Japanese followed up the Fuhrer's invitation the following day with a prompt declearation of war upon the United States of America. Everything had been sacrificed to the Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe. Not a single new ship, submarine or canoe had been buoilt for the Kriegsmarine except for some transports and convoy ships. The entire Kriegsmarine consisted of 3 heavy cruisers and a light cruiser. The Graf Spee served as the flagship.

4am 17 May 1941
The general staff had gathered for the upcoming offensive. The weather had cleared and the Fuhrer had summoned them. They knew about the upcoming attack on the Soviets, but not the details. Manstein, Guderian, Rommel, Model etc had to endure one of the Fuhrers rambles about the bolsheviks. They knew what was at stake but the Fuhrer had givin them an impossable task. He had not only demanded that they invade and subjugate Russia but they had been allowed 4 weeks to do it in!!!!!!! Leninggrad, Stalingrad, Baku and Moscow must fall and hopefully the Japanese would be able to capture Vladivistok. Hitler wasn't totally unreasonable. There was an allowence of an extra two weeks- ideally that would allow the Soviets enough time to throw in the towel. Plan B was to march all the way to Sverdlosk. Over 200 German divisons had been massed on the Soviet border.
ScreenSave9-10.jpg

Another 20 divisions or so of Axis troops were in Persia with Paratroopers standing by to seize Baku. Some of the best planes and pilots were in Tokyo to help bomb Vladivistok. With the new war against the USA time was critical. Once the Soviets had surrendered a massive fleet was planned to be built which may allow time for an invasion of the USA sometime in 1943. The entire western front beaches were defended by a rag tag force of Bulgarian and Hungarian troops. Bulgarian, Croatian, Slovakian, and Hungarian troops also defended the borders in Spain, Egypt and Persia.

As far as I can seen it's not the normal 1941 scenario. Interesting.

Zeldar You are quite correct but that defeats the purpose of this AAR. Its all in against the USSR to see if you can beat them in a month or very close to it.
Kurt-Steiner Its a 1936 game with a very narrow focus. Defeat the USSR ASAP.

Essentially I have infantry and a large number of brigaded tanks (20+). No CAS just around 20 odd tac bombers. No navy execept a few ships the game started with. Disbanded everything that wasn't level IV.

Poland central is a very weak front held by inf/militia/militia corp's with artillery. I'll have a proper update tomorrow but the basic plan is something like.

Amphibious assaults near Leningrad
Paratroops on Baku
Japanese/Manchukuo take Vladivistok
Large armored thrust through the Ukraine aimed at Moscow/Stalingrad.

Guderian is a general with X9 armor with SPA. Several tanks have armored cars. See what happens. A large number of TACs and tanks are ex Hungarian so I'll blame them or the Japanese if it doesn't work out.

Thats a safe bet, but how quick is the question. My army is alot stronger than that AAR one which was quite weak and took around 3 months. One day I might try and see what the minimum amount you can use is. I'm almost sure i can get it done in a month except for 2 things. My airforce is also very large in comparison to that game.

1. The Bitter peace event is random.
2. Japanese may struggle for Vladvistok. They seem to get it every game they've been in the Axis but the one time you need it....

Barbarossa is slightly different each time I play. Sometimes you can drive right into Leningrad/Moscow, othertimes big pile of units to dig through.

This gameis very armor heavy. I suspect if you pick a strategy and abuse it (heavy navy/armor/pnes/militia etc) you can beat the AI most of the time. THis will be the first time I have used Paratroopers in signifigant numbers. How much use they will get depends on how long it takes for the transport planes to recover org.

If Japan struggle, you could strat deploy to Korea region and help out as they are your ally.

Thundergate THey would take to long to get there and I don't have a continuous line in any event. Anyhow.

The attack on the Soviet Union was delayed for a few days to allow time for the Kriegsmarine to get into position. At 6am on the 17 May the assault began.

Guderian lead a large force of Panzers aimed at breaking through the line. 24 armored divisions smashed into the Soviet lines.

In the North another breakthrough point was assaulted. Amphibious landingss took place in the former Estonia.

ScreenSave1-19.jpg

ScreenSave2-10.jpg

To the soth more soldiers crossed the old Romanian border, now under occupation of the Reich.

ScreenSave3-14.jpg

And in the far east paratroops with support from nearby provinces captured Baku.

Will Follow.

German forces had landed near Leningrad. An amphibious assault support by 13 divisions lead to a reasonably quick capture of the city.
ScreenSave0-17.jpg

After 9 days of fighting the advance was bogging down near Riga. German spearheads were crossing the Dnieper, while General Hoth was leading his corp consisting of 3 armored divisions towards the Dnieper further North. Infantry were marching through the Ukriane towards Sevastopol.
ScreenSave1-20.jpg

A few das latter Hoth had almost linked up with Guderian who was racing towards Moscow. Large numbers of Soviet troops were in danger of being cut off. In the Baltics three marine divisons are cut off in Parnu and destroyed by Soviet counterattacks. Riga was still holding out. Rostov was about to fall clearing the way for rapid spearheads to advance on Stalingrad.

Meanwhile in the far east some good news.Japanese forces had captured Vladivistok.

The Marines were my own fault as I advanced them inland off the coast and forgot to garrison Tallin.

In less than four weeks Stalins city is under assault by advance elements of the Wehrmacht, falling after a brief battle.
ScreenSave4-10.jpg

In less than one month Moscow itself is besieged. The Luftwaffe helps the assault.
ScreenSave5-12.jpg

Barbarossa One month on to the day. The battle for Moscow still rages.
ScreenSave6-9.jpg

But only for a day. B-Day+1 all pbjectives captured. Time to sit back and wait.
ScreenSave7-9.jpg

Which takes a few weeks to fire:(

Taming the Bear in a few weeks 101. I failed for my 4 week timetable. Forgive me for I have sinned.

An to think I needed over a year to defeat Russia in my latest game as Germany... Shame on me, not you! :p

Its just practice. Ive never anexed the USSR. If I reloaded and redeployed my army I think I could do it even faster.

Oh, but the question is whether you want a gamey power-play or to fight a interesting war against the SU. For we all know the AI doesn't act according to the fact it CANNOT lose those 3 grads. It should focus much harder on their defence.

This is not to say Zardnaar didn't do good in this, 4 weeks sure is a short enough for defeating Stalin! :)

But I'd like to see how fast can you win if you start in the standard '41 scenario, anway.

I agree but it was a theory about how fast you could beat the USSR, and the actual barbarossa event wasn't that much fun. Afterwards I can serial build 18 aircraft carriers and have them ready by early 43 for invade the USA. I got the idea when I heard the record for defeating Poland was 8 hours or something like that. If I shaved a few days off I wonder if you could trigger the BP earlier or within the 30 days.

Might have another crack at it as it only takes a couple of hours real time to beat the USSR in this game. I've also had a PM for the save game file which may get posted here assuming it worked if anyone else want to have at it.
