A War to End All Wars- An Australian AAR
36TheWorld.png

The World before the outbreak of war. And to your bottom right is the the friendliest nation of them all....Australia. Will this little island country survive the "The War to End All Wars". Well I don't know, we shall see.

Before I get this AAR on the way, I have a bunch of things to clear up:
This is my horrible Mod (see my sig) on vanilla HoI 1.06. 1.06b has too many CTD for me.
The Soviet Union, Germany, USA are vegetable countries for the most part. Meaning they are at 100% diessent most of the time. The reason is for mine and your viewing pleasure as everyone can guess the outcome with everything vanilla.
This will be a quick AAR- I think. 1 update for a year.
This is more like a progress report, no story.

...Well maybe that wasn't alot.

1936

As I twiddle wood to wait for my Infantry divisions to be made, something shocking hapens!:

36SydneyInvaded.png
You see it right those wanna be Aussies attacked me! All homeland divisions are ordered to repel the attack, which they do with little casualties.

36InvasionofNZ.png
Seeing as I have no choice but to play fire with fire the invasion of New Zealand is proposed. With overwhelming force I hope it will be quick.

36InvasionofNZ2.png
The invasion does not go as planed. 4 Militia divisions under the command of Field Marshall Blamey gets pushed back, to the sea. Seeing thier territory being overrun, the New Zealanders try to stop the Aussies at Hamilton. A battle ensues.... The battle is cut short when:

36AnnexofNZ.png
Blameys forces moved in on the empty capitol and the New Zeleanders have no choice seeing how they are outnumbered and traped.

AussieOriginalShips.png
After the annexing of NZ I move foward to the East Indies, with my Beeeuuutiful ships.

In order to take the Dutch more quickly the invasion of Kuching needs to take place. The British dont take it lightly and send some ships over:

36BattleforBrunelBay.png

After the great sucess, there was some weeping as a heavy cruiser HMMS Perth is sunk in the battle. But the British arent coming back for awhile facing heavy damage and the loss of its central pacific fleet.

36YearEnds.png

Continuous walking is rewarded as the Dutch lose thier territory and another skirmish with Japanese sinks 2 of their capitol ships. And for this Christmas and New Years, the Navy rest. But they do not know the trouble that awaits in 1937

1937

A year has pass since the war started...
37TheWorld.png

As seen here, little has really changed. Russia, although getting a huge dissent hit, has slowly moved through Persia. USA hasn't faired as well as you can see. I decided to relieve the dissent hit. Keep a close look at Spain. Japan has been staking some Serbian land. South Africa has been dominating..well...Africa. After a bloody war against Norway, Sweden is the victor.

37DavaoLanding.png

After seeing this I quickly turned to counter the Japanese invasion with a landing in Davao. But since movement is slow I decided to bring a quick invasion of the capitol, Manilla.

37PushFoward.png

Since the slow fighting the Japanese moved foward and I had to fight both enemies. I stuck to the fight and defeated both. But after seeing the Japanese commitment to the area, I retreated first to Davoa then completely off the island.

37Retreat.png

But probably the worst part to the invasion was the loss 5 heavy cruisers. The Australian fleet was decimated. And 2 squadrons of transports were lost. It set us back. The one good part was that more infantry divisions were ready and I decided to make some naval bombers to compensate for the loss of my fleet. My confidence of my troops decreased (I later found that it was the militia) and I decided to further my navy with some future 5 cruisers.

But the trouble wasn't over:

37TwoTransports.png

The 2 division (calvary and militia) went to further sucess in Africa grabbing Madagascar and surrounding islands.
Thankfully my men made it out safe to a small island of Diego Garcia. But for now they were stranded.

37Deserted.png

The situation looked grim. The Japanese moved foward and the British had a huge Indian fleet. I have no fleet, will this mean the end of Australia and last only 3 years of war!? find out in 1938

The countries that were succesfull last year were succesful again as seen with the arrows.

At the end of 1937 the Japanese had full control of the Philippines. At around December 20th the Japanese did a shocking thing:

38EmptyIsland.png

Seeing this I had to jump on the oppurtunity quickly taking most of it over. As men slowly were distracted in events like, saving the divisions in Diego Garcia, and taking the remaining US islands the Japanese too took advatage with a massive landing in Manilla.

38JapaneseLanding.png

After little debate I decided that my troops would stay and fight for a change. For now I was outnumbered so the most logical thing to do was to retreat to the owned provinve of Davoa. Slowly I started bringing troops in.

38InvasionSignapore.png

What theatre I stayed with was the taking of key provinces in Siam held
Signapore. Hoping to annihalate 2 Siamese divisions.

38BattleinDavao.png

The Japanese slowly go their men up for an attack and it was brutal. Rushing all available men, it was going to be close as 2 militia divisions were gone in the early days of battle.

38Victory.png

It was a good day, the Australian troops proved efectiveness. But in this war of attrition, I lose quickly. But for now I lick my wounds. I captured Signapore unopposed and move on eventually captured the to Siamese division ill-equipped and ill-commanded.

38SignaporeWin.png

The succes in Signapore wasn't the only achievement for the Australians as again I repeled the Japanese, by now I was at 50% casualties and that was only 2 battles. But the Japanese had far worse.

382ndDavoa.png
Seeing the tight situation I was in I decided to press foward, because a great offense is a good defense... I only hope thats true.

38WTF.png

I have no clue what happened here but I would go unopposed, to the next province. Unfortunatley the Japanese did too, capturing a Davoa that had some fortifications being made.

I seeing the encirclement possibilities I took a chance with a 4 division landing in Manilla. I split my forces which no good General should do.

38ManillaLanding.png

I don't know whether the situation turn for a worse since the year begun or it got better, but with my new 5 cruisers on the way, I hope I can open the way for more troops. But thats another year in 1939
