(This is my first post ever on the forums, yay me! However, I have been an observer for quite some time, I've always wanted to try out making an AAR so, why not? Apologies in advance for any utter failures on my part.)
It was never a typical nuclear war, instead it was carefully planned nuclear strikes in a handful of situations, the nuclear bombs only ever killed around 16 million. The war took it's tole in another way- disease. The planet's greatest minds were focusing on weapons of destruction rather than instruments of life. The Third World War as it has been creatively named killed 700 million, it is unknown how many died of the Reaper as the disease was later named for it's monstrous killing power, but it did end the war. Famine and the Reaper killed people for years after- The Third World War lasted from 2025 to 2032 but from it's end to 2045 another 1.2 billion died, the cure was a savior. It was then the dark stain on our history known as the Anarchy ended, almost 2 billion dead changed humanity and we became a much more enduring species- a more cynical one too, we put our faith in science, the cure saved us, not the church. Still, some called it a punishment from the Heavens.
Our woes didn't end there though, humanity rebuilt, better or stronger or so we thought. Humanity wasn't united by such loss, but we did learn from it, the UN was taken more seriously and it was given more bite to go along with the bark, ambitious science projects hailed a golden age for mankind and in 2112 a powerful spaceport was completed above the skies of Earth, the largest structure ever built, on Earth or in the skies. In 2131 the conspiracy began to be unraveled, in a jungle in South Thailand a previously undiscovered cave was found by some local villagers, they gave chilling reports of thousands and thousands of bones. A local government official was sent to investigate, thinking little of the report, the woman came back horrified at what she found. A UN science expedition was immediately sent to investigate, what was found was chilling, if not interesting.
Carbon dating found the bones were around 5,000 years old and the cave was part of some kind of ancient ritual, drawings remained on the wall and evidence of some sort of language not known to any linguist on the planet, a true mystery. But it was more curious, remnants of steel were some how preserved. The Krabi Ritualists as they began to be known as should not have had the steel, they had this knowledge long before some places even had copper- and before any had iron. It was a true mystery. The UN team worked for years unraveling the mystery in the Krabi province. It was the biggest mystery in the world but eventually some facts began to emerge. The language on the cave wall had similarities to some ancient civilizations, but that only presented more questions, the said civilizations had no contact with the Krabi. Once this was unearthed work began to decode the messages. And it was a fascinating tale....
Immediately similarities appeared in religions and ancient tales across the world, the Abrahamic God asking Isaac to sacrifice his son for example. And soon evidence of the great empire the tale told of was found, a great city was found buried deep within a jungle of Krabi province, a ruin- it appeared to have been melted. There was evidence of lasers being used, charred remains were found everywhere. In the year 2059, almost three decades after the expedition set off the world was shocked. Alien life had been intervening on Earth in the past.
"People of Earth, long have you lived not knowing our true history, how the wise Star Lords lifted us from the abyss to greatness, and we, insolent and foolish moved against them- they just and fair, threw is back from whence we came- to learn and be ready for their coming. They declared their resistance to any alien overlord and to the Starfall Conspiracy. The War of Starfall was begun, it was worse than the Third World War, the Free Nations of Earth fought a hard battle and nuclear weapons were more widespread, firy hell was rained on Terran cities from the Moon, but eventually even their Lunar fortress fell. The Starfall Conspiracy was in the process of constructing their last hope, "The Starfall Device". It was a massive transmission device capable of transmitting faster than light messages, a blueprint was apparently left by "The Starlords". In 2090 the war was finally won. 3 billion out of 10 billion Terrans died, it was a massacre. But from the ashes of the war a veteran was elected. John Crofter became the first President of the Terran Republic. Rebuilding was difficult, but 10 years later the first warp ships were ready to go out into the stars.

All nation states, great and small have humble beginnings, the successful ones rule over other nations and take what was theirs, destroy ancient, proud nations that have histories spanning eons with great victories and triumphs when their conquerors where merely babes in the cradle. Epic tales of Rome and Carthage- When the Roman Eagle fought the African Elephant, the eternal city fought the shining city. These tales pass into legend and make men dream of glory, many wish to be remembered like Alexander the Great who led a once divided, silly people to greatness to dominate the known world, or Napoleon, or Charlemagne, these great figures who pass into legends- It was on these triumphs the young Terran Republic first stepped out into the void in the year 2200. Gods Among Men
Those with knowledge of ancient languages came from all over the world to pore over the cave texts and eventually a tale was deciphered, it was crude at best, and completely wrong at worst. The cave wall told of great sky Gods who came from the stars on a cloud to visit the people in the tribe of the Krabi ritualists. In return for being worshiped the sky gods offered great power, they gave the Krabi great weapons and taught them to defeat their enemies. The Krabi did so and when they conquered their enemies, and so the sky gods in return for their favor demanded a blood sacrifice, every first born son would be sacrificed to them. The Krabi refused, to punish their insolence the Krabi civilization was destroyed. The tale is the last words of a lone survivor of the massacre as he lies dying. He writes in the language of the sky gods.

Then out of nowhere a shadowy organization emerged- a cult who held knowledge of these aliens in secret. Across the world they staged coups and seized power. Even on the lunar colonies. Then the mysterious silent cult spoke. Every schoolchild on Earth knows about the Starfall Declaration, which sparked the War of the Starfall....
