I was having a great time with my first GC game, playing England and roaring through North America establishing trading posts like wildfire... reached Mar. 1612, tried to save as usual (though I do have Autosave on) - and it crashed to desktop. Tried again from one of my 1611 saves - crashed again when I tried to save in 1612. Repeated this several times: I could save again without trouble in a later month in 1611, but come 1612, no way.

So with much sweat (reconfiguring my CD drive) I upgraded to UK ver. 1.08 in the hope that would solve the problem - but it's exactly the same.

WHAT TO DO??? I HAVE looked at FAQs and other threads in these forums, and not yet found a solution. I can give all the tech. details and email a crashed save file if necessary, but was just hoping someone out there might have had a similar problem or be able to point me to a thread or FAQ I missed...

This is a FANTASTIC game - I'm totally hooked - but hey listen, I haven't even managed to finish my first Grand Campaign! "Rather frustrating" would be a massive understatement!

This game does have a tendency to crash especially in the later stages of the game when it seems to get very bad memory leaks. It seems very dependent on your PC's spec and configuration plus, what you have running.....I guess you've tried re-booting and shuting off all other programs that may be running in the back-ground??.

This was improved a bit in 1.08 and is supposed to be fixed in 1.09 (due out on the 17th May).

However, the way I understand it is that the patch does not help saved game files of a previous version so you would have to have started on 1.08 for the improved effects and this will likewise be true as far as I'm aware of 1.09.

Prehaps Paradox can answer the version qusetion directly, but I think that this is correct.

Not good news but it never is.

Cheers, Ice:cool:

Yes, I've been closing down all superfluous TSR's every time before starting EU, as I'd read of crash problems here and elsewhere... And after this particular problem I rebooted a number of times and did CTRL/ALT/DEL to end tasks until I had little more than Explorer running.

What you say about saved games retaining the instability of the version they were started under is rather depressing, as I'd been hoping, if all else failed, that 1.09 would enable me to finish this excellent campaign! But it seems fated to end its days as one of those great might-have-beens... :(

Thanks for your comment, though!
