I don't know why this has to be so complicated but it seems it is.

First, I did the easy way of going to my cloud directory and copying the save into my local folder. Done. The game recognizes the save file as local. Load. Of course, since it's an ironman game, as soon as I go to leave, it overwrites/creates a cloud save. I can only assume this is because the settings of the game were originally set to cloud and likely encoded in the save file. Since it's ironman, I cannot simply hit save and choose a local save...

So then I try to extract the .ck3 file and edit the gamestate in a text++ editor. Nope, apparently the autosaves are encoded whereas the manual saves aren't. Bloody dumb if you ask me.

So after a few head bangings against the wall, I'm out of ideas. I simply want my ironman game I started a while back to be local to avoid corruption and offsite saving lag. Anyone have any ideas of how to achieve this? Even forums and postings in the past asking about this largely went unanswered or suggested what I tried but we know that doesn't work.
