I tried installing 1.03b on CK (just bought it, version 1.00, possibly 1.01, but I think 1.00), on my beautiful Dell Inspiron 600m. Anyway, it doesn't work; evidently Crusader Kings is not installed.

This would be a perfectly legitimate problem, were it not for the fact that it's utter bollacks (can I use that word? Bollacks? Props to the Brits for thinking it up).

I read the other threads concerning similar problems, but none of them solved my problem. I unistalled, downloaded a fresh patch from the Paradox homepage, reinstalled, tried applying it, no luck. I checked the registry; all the registry stuff is there under software/Paradox Entertainment/Crusader Kings, the game itself runs fine, etc.

The game was originally installed to C:\Program Files\Games\Crusader Kings, like the rest of my game, but I thought, maybe that's a problem, so I moved the folder to C:\Program Files\Paradox Entertainment\Crusader Kings. No dice.

GOD this is annoying. Any help?

What language version of 1.03b you`ve tried to install over which language ver. of CK?
Is language stated in registry the same, as lang of the patch (if not - change it)?

If you want to know, how hard can it be to install 1.03b, read thread about problems with patching polish version, located in this subforum. :D

I downloaded and used the English version patch.

No, I did not uninstall and then reinstall, I simply moved the folder...perhap's thats the problem?

Also, how can I tell if the registry points to the correct file? The stuff is under "software/paradox entertainment/crusader kings"...should it be under "software/program files/paradox entertainment/crusader kings"?

And, finally, no, I am not a pirate, nor do I enjoy being accused of being one, either in jest or no.

You obviously have an illegal copy...
Accusations like that by members are against board policy. ;)

Ignore the trolls please!

back to what is important, your problem.
If you just moved the files it would not update your registry.

I would suggest following the uninstall directions here:

Those are Instructions for VIc but just replace CK for Vic everywhere and you should be fine.
delete the 1.03B patch from your drive, empty your temp internet files.
download a new copy of the Patch from the Sticky thread at the top of this forum.
reinstall from cd, then just apply the 1.03B patch.

THen reinstall to the default folder and drive.
Then try the patch.

Alright. Somewhat annoying, since my laptop is not connected to the Net yet (so I have to dl the patch, burn it to a CD, and then shift it over to the laptop...) but I'll try your advie.

Un-be-lievable.

I uninstalled the game, reinstalled it, deleted the patch, redownloaded it, put it on the laptop. Registry points to C:\Program Files\Paradox Entertainment\Crusader Kings, just like the freakin' game, didn't move it at all, installed it straight to the default path, NO DICE.

Fury courses through my veins. I had a similar problem with Victoria, but I have no idea how I solved it. Arg.

I don't really understand what you are talking about here?

You must have had access to DL the patch in the first place, you could also just link it to your Desktop.

Whos logo is on the CD and where did you buy it?

I was just griping about my lack of internet connection on my laptop. Redownloading the patch from the internet involves downloading it on my desktop (which is too old to run CK), burning it to a CD, and putting it on the laptop.

The logo on the CD is Paradox; I bought it at a second-hand software store (lacking, as I do, anything resembling a budget), so I suppose Paradox didn't profit directly from it (although I have bought other Paradox games directly from stores before).

What does the registry entry look like after you install the game?

It's in software/paradox entertainment/crusader kings, and it has a subfolder which is entitled something along the lines of 1.01.00. In the main CK folder, it has five or six entries; "default", "app" "lang" "path" and a few others. "Path" and "app" both point to C:\programfiles\paradox entertainment\Crusader kings\crusader.exe, which is where the game is located, and the rest do not have an entry that points to anything.

The 1.01.00 folder has a "default" entry.

What does it say beside language?

Okay, do you know what you did?

If you are reffering to Grosshaus, I would point out two very important differences.
1) You totally miss read what he said. He was explaining one reason why patches are done the way they are. Responding to your question I might add, he was not accusing you. If he thought you a Pirate you would be banned.
2) He is a MODERATOR!
