Good evening fleshy meatbags who don't choose the path of steel and lubricant.

I was playing Stellaris earlier and I accidentally hit either Alt-Esc or Alt-Enter. My game screen shrunk down to a windowed mode roughly a quarter the size of my screen. I tried Alt-Enter again and it then blew up to cover both my main monitor and my second monitor. Tried it again in case it was a cyclic thing and then it was back to the main monitor, but infringing slightly on my second.

Now when I load up Stellaris, the scale is massively out of whack with everything about half the size it was. As you can see from the attached image, everything has been shrunk to hell. I've tried deleting the settings document in the Paradox --> Stellaris folder but nothing changed. Help would be treasured, even if it's just "Lol reinstall".

Cheers
DoS

Update: I've tried using alt - enter a few times, same for alt - escape and it hasn't been fixed. Anybody have an idea? :)

Found how to increase the UI scale, but the debug window is tiny! As you can see, the scale of that is completely out of sync with the rest.

Please delete your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt files. They'll be recreated at default settings.

I did that and it was back to the incredibly zoomed out version. When I adjusted the scale to 2.0x and entered game, the debug window brought up by ~ is so zoomed out I can barely read any of the text.

Also: My ships have migrated from their own tab, to the Government tab, whilst still persisting within the ship tab

Update: Fixed the migrated ship issue, but the debug menu is still barely readable.

I guess 2x is too much for it then, if you scale back to say 1.5 is that okay?

Unfortunately, the problem persists. By reducing it to 1.5x scale the text window, and everything else shrinks including the load bar. I am hesitant to adjust my PC settings because every other game plays fine as it did before this. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling with no success.

I don't understand why you get this problem still, after deleting those settings files you should be completely back to how you were.

Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere, and user empire designs.txt from /Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/ if you have made any custom empires or races.
- "uninstall" in Steam-Stellaris
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Stellaris AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add stellaris.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular you need to make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam Stellaris or Documents Stellaris locations, before installing again.

Still the same issue. I did everything as instructed, started with zero mods after doing a full clean reinstall. As you can see, everything is the correct size EXCEPT the debug window. New

Sorry, but I have no idea why that would have changed from what you did, and how it can not be back like it was after a clean reinstall. I'm not aware that anything about the game is stored outside those two settings files.

I'll run it by folks in a back channel here; it they don't know either I don't know what else to suggest, I'm sorry!

I really appreciate it. I'm running 3.14.1592653 after choosing that in the Betas submenu of the properties tab. When I reverted it I had no issues, so I'm a little...perplexed. As you said, the clean reinstall should have fixed it. All my other games are working fine with no changes.

I tried changing the display mode to windowed and the resolution to what another game of mine ran and no changes. I tried changing the game settings fullscreen resolution to mirror my desktop and...nope, same issue. As you can imagine, quite annoyed.

Sorry, so this only happens in that older game version? 4.0.12 is okay?

Oh, I thought when you said "When I reverted it I had no issues" that meant it was okay.

I've not been able to find anyone to explain this yet.

What if you make a new Windows user profile on this PC and try the game under that? If still a problem, on another PC?

Wow. I'm glad you got there but I have no idea why that was necessary!
