Its just ridiculous how even a principality is added to the game , Bohtan , but you cant form Safavid Empire . They made the Twelver school of Shia as the official religion of the empire thus converted Persian Region and some parts of Anatolia (Modern day Iran , Iraq , Turkey , Syria ) which its effects are still decisive in 2015 . Safavids also left perfect architectural masterpieces featuring Shia Turkish tradition throughout Iran .

Today according to CIA World Factbook 25% of population of Iran are Azeri Turk or from various Turkmen Tribes including Qashais .

They were different from Persia because it was a Turco-Persian Empire . Even with Ottoman-Safavid wars Ottoman Sultan Selim the II was writing his letters in Persian but Safavid Shah Ismail was responding in Turkish . Ottomans even gave more power/autonomy to Kurds in Eastern Anatolia to prevent Shia Turkmen Tribes from joining the Qizilbash Army of Safavids and even exiled , persecuted Turkmens Ottomans were representing the Khalifate of Sunni Islam .

Shah Ismail , his pen name "Hatayi" also wrote his poems in Azeri which greatly contributed to Azeri literature .

The Army was 90% Qizilbash which were Oghuz - Turkmen Alevis . Court Language , religious , dignitary and military language was Turkish .

So it started as a Turkmen-Kizilbash Empire and evolved in to a more Persian one . There can be decision to move capital from Tabriz to Isfahan ( as in reality ) and make a culture shift .

This way game will be much more historically accurate .

National Ideas can be , Qizilbash Warriors +10% infantry combat ability

Isfahan School of Philosophy: +2 religious tolerance

Influx of Anatolian Ulema : -%5 idea cost

Twelver Architecture : -10% cost for buildings

etc .

However, as it's a dynasty name, it doesn't really make sense. I think maybe a different name would be better.

Definately in the game already.

Could be a dynamic historical event as part of a series of events where aq qoyunlu takes over qara qoyunulu. Maybe also throw in something for nader shah as a 6 mil ruler or an amazing general.

It is weird how such an important event in the east is left to generic rebels while the netherlands gets so much love.

I'm curious what the OP thinks "Persia" in the game represents? If you go through the various start dates, Persia in-game will have rulers from the Safavid dynasty and occupy the area ruled by the dynasty, until such time as a the Afsharids and the later dynasties come into play...

I do agree that a some more attention needs to given to its foundation, as the previous poster mentioned...

Ottomans want to have a word with you.

Anyway, Safavids are already in game — as Persia.

Ottoman Empire was also named after a dynasty .

I formed Persia with Aq Qoyunlu in my last game and thats exactly why I decided to open this thread . It is missing all the Turkish element which actually formed the Empire .

There is nothing about Qizilbash Army which is just ridicolus . They even added unique Kurdish ideas which were merely just a city vassal of Safavids .

At least they can put unique Safavid Ideas if you form Persia with Aq Qoyunlu .

EU4 does not handle middle eastern countries which were named after their dynasties very well. Ideally, they should do what they do in CK2 and have the base country be named e.g. Persia or Turkey, but be named after the dynasty under certain circumstances, e.g. if they are a monarchy. That would add flavour and immersion, and get rid of "republican Ottomans". I also believe, in the name of soft-railroading, that countries should have events which make historical dynasties more likely. I'm not a modder though so I have no idea if this is doable.

The empire was not formed by turks, it was formed by kurdish shiites revolting against turks. Also the Qizilbash are the first idea and I'm pretty sure persias morale recovery ambition is a another reference to them.

Maybe we should remove the Ottomans? Timurids? Mamluks? Qara Qoyunlu?
There's many dynasty countries in the game. This would fit in just fine.

The Persia tag is pretty much the Safavids.
