I honestly have no idea how to find the solution to this problem, I only know that the first time I tried playing Victoria 3's 1.9.5 update, my entire system froze for around a minute before moving normally again.

After that, I've been having random mouse disconnections(with the audible disconnect/reconnect system sound from my speakers, and my mouse being unresponsive during the period of disconnection) that I cannot solve using recommended methods such as updating drivers, changing USB root port power settings, etc.

Considering that this only happened after running Victoria 3(1.9.5) for the first time, and it only happens when I am not playing Victoria 3, I have come to the conclusion that I must ask Paradox for help now, as these random disconnections are getting more frequent, and since yesterday(I started playing Victoria 3(1.9.5) last week) now randomly pair with full system freezes during the time of disconnection(i.e. I hear the sound, my system becomes unresponsive, I hear the reconnection sound, my system is now responding normally).

It is quite worrying.

I will provide information regarding system hardware etc. as requested because I have no idea what is causing this anyway.

I have no idea what could possibly cause this. It is hard to see how the game could cause it when it is not running!

Have you rebooted Windows since, even powered off your PC?

I've rebooted multiple times and still have the issue.

I really can't figure out how or what's doing it when all reasonable logic says that restarting my computer would not cause the issue to reoccur.

I have also run multiple full antivirus scans with Malwarebytes, Emsisoft Emergency Kit, HitmanPro, Avast, as well as boot time scans with Avast.

It won't be malware IMO, but what it is I do not know.

Make a new Windows user profile on this PC and try the game under that - any better?

I tried making a new user profile and both before and after trying Victoria 3, it's still the same issue.

I wonder if something broke during the system freeze I mentioned when I first started 1.9.5?

You mean did the hard-hang permanently affect Windows or hardware in some way? Not impossible I suppose, but I haven't seen other such reports here, and why of all things would only the mouse would be affected ... !

I take it it's connected via bluetooth? If so do you have any other devices using bluetooth to see whether they are affected too?

Sorry for the late update.

My mouse is a wired mouse.

I got a new mouse(Also wired) on Monday, and tested it with other games to test if this mouse would also disconnect, and it didn't.

So I plugged in and tested my old mouse and it still randomly disconnected.

However, because I never bothered to unplug the old mouse, I had it plugged in when I tried running 1.9.6 for the first time, and ever since then, my old mouse has had zero random disconnections.

I am confused, but maybe the thing that was causing this was fixed?

Well frankly that sounds like a mouse problem, although a particularly weird one!

Anyway I'm glad it came good even though we don't know what went wrong in the first place.

I am back to say something else because I just saw a PCGamer article reporting that the manufacturer of my previous mouse(XM1 RGB, by Endgame Gear) confirms that it had malware-compromised software(for a different mouse model, though) hosted on its official site from 26 June to 9 July, which lines up with the timeline of when my mouse began experiencing disconnections and issues.

I don't know if my mouse is compromised at all, because I actually hadn't changed or updated the software/firmware since November 2023, and it suddenly started malfunctioning during the time period of Victoria 3(1.9.5, 27 June), during which I redownloaded and reinstalled the configuration software for my mouse after experiencing issues.

I am running more antivirus scans on my system, and I hope that my system isn't compromised, but I don't know if it is or what this would actually mean. or whether I should send this concern to Endgame Gear with a link to this forum post.
