Ethiopia controls a lot of land at start, but a lot of it are newly conquered Muslim territories that they won't keep for long, as within 30 years they should lose Bale to Adel. While Adel is larger than Ethiopia in size, most of it is TPs (since a lot of their land was inhabited by barely Muslim, fiercely independent tribesmen.)

ETHIOPIA:
Shewa (capital)
Massawa
Keren (tp)
Gondar
Welo
Bale
Kefa (tp, 5k natives, pagan)

ADEL: (XHO tag) Leader of the alliance with Mogadishu, on bad terms with Ethiopia, vassal to Ethiopia
Arsi (capital)
Issas (city = Zeila)
Harerge
Ogaden (tp)
Afars (tp)
Mudugh (tp)
Somalia (tp)

Mogadishu: (SHA tag) on good terms with Adel and Zanj
Mogadiscio (capital, city = Mogadishu)

Gondar: (CRE tag) Allied with Ethiopia
Gonder (capital)

Kefa should produce Coffee

ZANJ: Leader of the Zanj Sofala alliance
cities:
Malindi
Kenya
Mombasa
Tanga
Rufiji
tps:
Tana
Galana
Arusha
Morogoro

Rename Zimbabwe to Mwanamutapa
MWANAMUTAPA: On good terms with Sofala
Zimbabwe (capital)
Rozwi
Nembire
Sofala (city = Chiredzi)

SOFALA: (ZUL tag) Allied with Zanj
Zambezia (capital, city = Sofala)
Nampula (tp)

East africa really needs some serious representation...

Issue #1: Nubia's too strong (it should lose the top two provinces to the Mamelukes)

Issue #2: Somalia had several strong states in this time

Issue #3: Ethiopia needs a coastline

Issue #4: Old Mozambiquan states need representation (at the expense of Zimbabwe)

Issue #5: Zimbabwe is WAY too big... Maybe strengthen Zulus and give them a defensible frontier by giving them Chibuene and Inhambane, with that river and the extremely low support values, this will keep Zimbabwe from adventuring south. And take away Zimbabwe's gold for gods sake :p

Issue #6: Old states in Mozambique, Angoshe and Manyika, include?

*cough* Zulus should not even exist as a country to begin with, and certainly not at that time...

And, AFAIK, Nubia shouldn't exist either.

Aren't these things already handled in the AGC: Africa thread?

Ethiopia:
Massawa (city: Massawa)
Ogaden (city: Ogaden)
Keren (city: Keren)

New Nation! Adal

Adal was the arch-nemesis of Ethiopia, the Arab-backed muslim Somali state and Ethiopia were constantly fighting for mastery over the horn of Africa, and the Somalis had the upper hand until the Portugese joined the fun ;)

Zimbabwe renamed to Mwanamutapa
Nampula added

ADAL: (XHO tag):
Capital in Issas (city: Zeila)
Afars (city: Berbera )
Somalia (city: Bosaso )
Mudugh (city: Eyl )
Mogadiscio (city: Mogadishu BIG)

ZANJ: (Sofala was a Zanj state, not part of Zimbabwe, but it was sort of independent of the northern 'alliance')
Malindi (city: Malindi)
Zanzibar

SOFALA (ZUL tag):
Sofala (capital, possible CoT) TPs around them??

No man, those are the provinces I'm adding ONTO Ethiopia ;) (I am giving one Ethiopian province to Adel, but it's sort of important considering it was the heart and capital of Adel :D)

Ethiopia has a coastline now! (it was sort of dumb how they didn't before, how the hell did the Portugese find them eh? ;))

Ethiopia should be more interesting to play now too with an about-equal sized rival on their doorstep :)

Ethiopia: Shewa (capital), Gonder, Welo, Kefa, Bale, Arsi, Keren, Massawa.
Adel: Harerge (capital), Ogaden, Issas, Afars, Somalia, Mudugh, Mogadiscio.

Ethiopia only has a one province advantage, but Ethiopia's a little richer and more manpower.

Disunity in Ethiopia, coinciding with the unification of all the Somali sultanates under the rulership of an extremely capable imam/general/king who held half of Ethiopia for 16 years. He's still infamous in Ethiopian history as the darkest day in their history, and naturally Somalia's national hero ;)

(after that though, Somalia fell into chaos and infighting though, and with the Portugese invasion Adal's days were numbered after that, by 1820 it was reduced to one province, Harer.)

That's a bit of a slippery slope... For instance Zanj is made up of 7 independent states, Somalia has 3, Ethiopia has 4, but Ethiopia had an Emperor who ruled over all the kings, and the Zanj acted as a single military and POLITICAL entity, even as the individial cities competed fiercely with each other.

The other Somali sultanates were moving towards unity at this time, and all of them basically followed Harer's lead when faced with invasion from Ethiopia.

So either we should keep them pretty much unified, or we should break them ALL up

That's completely the wrong shape for Ethiopia during this time period.

here is a map showing some recent aquisitions...

you can kind of see the shape of Ethiopia on this map

http://home.planet.nl/~hans.mebrat/ethiopia.jpg

Ethiopia in general ought to be much smaller, and concentrated in the Northwest as compared to now, with a small seacoast. It's a shame I don't have scanners so I could show you what my books show.

AFAIK, Adal was almost entirely in afars and issas. The expansion it did have was more towards the interior, not the horn.
