In a recent game as Persia, I fought numerous wars against Turkey. Eventually Russia managed to get the event which reduces the Turks to an unciv satellite of theirs. But still I wanted more from Turkey, so I attacked again, bringing Russia into my war.
There were no good "colonial" places for Russia to attack me, and they didn't provide a very good defense for Turkey, which I rolled over. Here's the problem:
Russia was the senior partner in the alliance, and so offered me a peace deal. Though my only conquests were in Turkey (most of the country), I had a massive war score with *Russia*, so they offered me pretty much all of *Russia*'s colonies - Alaska, the middle of Russia, etc. This is highly exploitative at best (as I could reassault Turkey for the land I wanted there) and unbalancing at worst (it can cause major powers to give up huge, er, tracts of land in defense of their allies).
Optimally in that situation (no war score against senior partner, heavy against junior partner) Russia should sell out Turkey, not sell out themselves. Given that I decided not to exploit the game logic, that was the eventual result anyway - a massive victory against Turkey, and then an eventual white peace against Russia.
