Information

I have verifed my game files (Steam only)

Yes

I have disabled all mods

Yes

I am running the latest game update

Yes

Required

Summary

AI spends years on sieges with insufficient number of troops

Description

I played as adventurer in Jerusalem and Syria in 1178 and while helping little counts and dukes in their wars I noticed that they just standing besieging 14+ forts using small armies for years until wars invalidate or end with white peace. I have either to leave my army with them and do other contracts or just look at screen and deal with regular events because no contract is available nearby and I can't move my camp.

I am on GeForce Now so I can't attach the savegame.

Steps to reproduce

Start a war between two little poor rulers in 1178 and watch them trying to take a castle with high fortification.

Game Version

1.15.0

Additional info:
When player besieges a castle without enough troops AI stands in neighboring barony as guard instead of helping with siege.
But helps with siege of another castle.

It was impossible to win this in less than 5 years. I had to offer white peace.

Heya rasuuru,
That does sound strange! Could you provide a save file where this happens?

You can find your saves here: Documents/Paradox Interactive/Crusader Kings III/save games

Hello! I play on GeForce Now where file explorer is not accessible. I'll install the game on my PC, try to reproduce and post the savegame.

Here are a bunch of save files and screenshots.

And now that I think about it it might just be an oversight.
AI rulers simply don't understand that they don't have enough troops for sieges. War score for battles is capped at 50%, so the only ways to end the war are:
  • to surrender,
  • to offer white peace,
  • to attack enemy armies hoping to capture the enemy ruler,
  • to wait until war score reaches 100%.

If developers taught AI how to use kidnap scheme or introduced other means to capture a castle or temporary reduce fortification level and garrison size, something like:
  • "Infiltration/Trojan Horse" military scheme,
  • siege actions like "Throw rotten cows" to start an epidemic and reduce garrison size,
  • army modifier "Throw rotten meat in water wells" to reduce barony supplies and garrison size with a chance to start an epidemic...
then that would be great.

There are also some other bugs captured in the save files:
  • I accepted "Hunt Criminals" contract, got two capture events getting +1 to progress and automatically returned to my camp. But the contract was not finished and I can't continue with it.
  • I pressed demands and started the war but "Current Situation" still tells me to press demands.
  • Duplicated army icons. It happened two times. I don't know what I did when it happened first time but the second time it was after I refilled my army.

Hi!
I have another related problem: AI prefers useless siege to repelling enemy army from capital.
Here, Queen Sybilla of Jerusalem attacked neighboring county while having less troops than needed for successful siege. I play as OP character and I have attached my army to hers, we could easily win because I would be the commander in a battle.

Can't attach save file, this is GeForce Now, here is no access to filesystem and this is not a cloud save.
