This is a simple mod that "colonises" Alberta and Saskatchewan by giving the states and pops they contain to the Hudson Bay Company. The states begin unincorporated. The Iron Confederacy is removed completely from the game, while Blackfoot still holds some territory south of HBC.

My reason for making this mod is that consistently USA colonises this land, creating ugly borders with Canada. For those of us who like nice and clean borders, this mod is for you.

If there are any other stand-out ugly border situations you'd like me to address, let me know in the comments. I've noticed since making this mod that Russia colonises north Hokkaido, but I'm holding off making a mod for that in case it might be worthwhile making a bundle of border changes together.

Yeah, this is a fair mod to make (at least early on) until Paradox fixes this issue in the coming months and years.

I'm currently working on a mod that tries to tweak and tailor AI decisions regarding colonising and conquering to be a bit more "historical", mainly inspired by the fact Egypt has a very strong tendency to demand European states from the Ottoman Empire. Unfortunately, I'm pretty much brand new to Jomini and haven't touched modding a PDX game since Victoria 2 years ago, so a lot of trial and error right now. I'm hoping though that maybe I'll be able to force the USA AI to avoid taking the Canadian lands and likewise compel the HBC AI to colonise them, thus avoiding this sort of "hard fix" that ends up limiting player choice.

Personally, I think the big problem is the big push by the US to colonize/conquer the western native tribes. Frankly the US should not by colonizing the Great Plains by the early 1840s. The Great Plains simply weren't viable for wide spread settlement at that point. The soil there, while very rich, was hard-packed clay that was very difficult to cultivate with the tools of the time. It wasn't until the 1860s when this truly began to change.

John Deere started making steel plow for that soil in 1837.

Nice workaroun, I would suggest to split the Niitsitapi between HBC and USA.
it prevents both nations to colonise on the other side of the 49th
Iron Confederacy can be alive, as it’s completely surrounded by the HBC and keeps them busy, otherwise they might focus on the Niitsitapi in Montana.

And yet we didn't start to settle the land in any significant way until the 1860s.

Weird.
