The Background of the AAR - Overview - Extract from the "The Current State Of World Affairs" By Richard Mayer - Published April, 1936.

"Undeniably, the current state of affairs in the world begins in Greece, 1930, who's rapid industrialization and militarization lead to three successive wars, and therefore, to the sorry state of the Pan-European War.

Gregori I, The Current ruler of the Paternal Autocratic Hellenic state owes much to the current generation of Greek genius', The rapid economical growth, along with its large technological investment and militarization, their by-products. Therefore, we shall spend some time looking at the 'Greco-Italian War of 33', 'The New Balkan War of 33-35', And 'The Turkish Humilitation - Istanbul, 35', Along with one of many of Greece's diplomatic moves.

In 1933, The Greek government began applying pressure to the Italian government for the return of the Dodecanese Islands and Rhodes from Italy. Mussolini's New Government did not respond in a very kindly way, The Italian Navy attacked Cretian Harbours, destroying a large portion of the Greek Cretan Flotilla, Unfortunately, rather than deter the confident Greek state, This resulted in a short war, where huge amounts of Greek troops landed on strategic sites, occupying and annexing the Islands, Italy was powerless to respond, as coastal fortifications, instead of being destroyed, fell to the Greek troops, The war lasted all but 2 months, with a humiliatating Italian Defeat.

Later that year, Bulgaria began a diplomatic campaign with its Balkan Neighbours, Namely, Albania and Yugoslavia. Albania had suffered one border skirmish with Greece, and had begun to become increasingly concerned with reports of greek military movements, Yugoslavia was suffering from diplomatic pressure to return Macedonian territories to the Greek state, And The Bulgarian government didnt want to be the next Hellenic target.

So, Eventually, after careful military planning, the 3 countries declared war on Greece. At first, the plan seemed to proceed extremely well, Greece forces were forced to retreat several kilometres from the border, however, new greek tanks, recently developed on the safe haven of Crete, began to advance through the mountain passes, Surprisingly, and to the Balkan allies dismay, their generals failed to destroy the tanks in the easily done so position of the mountains, The allies were forced to Retreat.

Albania threw everything it could at the flank, but Greek troops entered Tirana later that month, Yugoslavia dropped out of the war and ceded Macedonia, however, Bulgaria continued to resist.

In 1935 Turkey promised support to Bulgaria, However, by then, Bulgaria was bloodied, and ceded territory in return for continued existence. Greek might was fully turnt towards Turkey, and Istanbul was conquered, The turkish forces were humiliated, where, confident of victory, they left the city fully open to flanking from amphibious landings, Only when Greek troops were outside of Ankara did Turkey cede land in return for its existence.

Soon After, Britain was approached by Greece over the disputed territory of Cyprus, The Hellenic state made a very good arguement to the British parliament, and mainly, the promise of millions made the British government cede the territory, The British economy was injected overnight, and Clement Atlee's popularity rose by 15%.

In 1936, The German Reich began its military campaign, confident it could win, due to the ambitious Greek states moves, Germany moved against Czechoslovakia and Austria, France and her allies were quick to move, declaring war soon after, something Germany did not expect. The German Reich, Lead by a relatively unknown man, Chancellor Himmler, has held its ground, for now, and it is argued over the world that it could win its war.

This has lead to the current position, where war rages in western Europe. It could be argued this all lies with one man, a greek man, Gregori I.

However, one thing is true, the Greek Flag flies over many more provinces than it did before, and its inclusion in either side of the war will be pivotal."

Well, Himmler could be debatedly worse, but of course, in this world of Alternates.. I dont even want to think of it, so he isnt going to do anything of the sort, even though all round the germans will be fairly evil bastards..

I dont know what im going to do, It depends whether Germany falls, as it is in war already with most of Europe, lol. I'll probably further this tommorow.

Very nice. I like the idea of a Hellenic Empire, I'll keep reading.

Athens - May 1936

The Summit On The Parthenon

The war in western europe had claimed thousands of lives, already, but it had turned in German favour, eventually, Czechoslovakia and its foundries had been annexed, and Austria had been re-united, French forces were toppling backwards over the Maginot Line, and all was in order.

And there, as glorious as ever, the Hellenic Republic existed, The German Chancellor himself had paid its wonderful capital city a visit, taking in its sights and giving speeches to the Greek people, Meeting with Gregori, and discussing matters of state.

The Reich promised many things, if the Hellenic state could smash what remained of Turkey, and apply pressure to the Allied Middle-East, in return for German advisory and technology, The offer was tempting.

But what if Germany fell, Greece would be implicated.. would fall?

No, Never. The Hellenic Republic entered an alliance - albeit secret, With the Third Reich the following day. Gregori I had no idea what fate he had sealed for himself, this soon... But he would use the Germans for his own benefit, if they were foolish enough to let him.

Huge amounts of the Greek army poured Eastward, as war broke out once more, Turkey was crushed... Annexed. But foul things had befallen Macedonia and Albania.

Yugoslavia had been in buildup since the New Balkan War, huge amounts of Slav troops poured across the border, Re-occupying Albania, "liberating" it in a huge celebration, re-taking Macedonia, Even entering Greece itself.

The only things that can truely be attributed for the current existence of the Hellenic State is the fact that Bulgaria remained out of the war, and that the Army doubled its return to the Balkans. The Yugoslavians had smashed back the Greeks, but they were not out, merely down.

The Second Front And The Betrayal, July 1936

"And That is why, Britain and her allies, regardless of all ties, Must declare war on the Hellenic Republic..." - The New British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, in a statement over the recent scandal, where details of a secret alliance had been revealed by Greek turncoats.

In Athens, Military Command scrambled to re-arrange the border, it had turned into sluggish mountain fighting, neither side was making a breakthrough, and Greeces few tank divisions were left smouldering in the passways, along Yugoslavian counterparts, whilst the Yugoslavian and British airforce had carte blance to operate, bombing positions, even Athens itself, Although, credit given to their bombers for avoiding Landmarks.

However, Rumours were coming in of the big-push, Yugoslavian troops were soon to throw everything they had, to smash the dreams of Greece, Alexanders dreams of the greek world.

Yugoslavian Troops come across a former Greek tank entrenchment

The respite needed came with the opening of the Second front, unprepared Yugoslavian troops were brushed aside as superior German troops, The Wehrmacht's finest bled through the border, a tide of carnage, ripping Yugoslavian morale to shreds, of course, the Germans were slow to advance, repulsing french attacks, But it gave the Military Command in Athens, and the frontline troops the time to react, huge amounts of reserves were called up, fortifications re-arranged.

The sorry state of affairs in the Balkans, Yugoslavian advance...

Yugoslavia would have its day, but it would be at the hands of Greek forces.

The Belgrade Parade - The Partition.

German And Greek Troops Parade through the streets of Belgrade

"Today, Victorious Troops of the Great Alliance entered the streets of Belgrade, ending the Newest addition to Balkan Misery, Gregori I, upon hearing of Yugoslavia's surrender, and the news that Greek forces were free to move north to the western front, once the Dubrovnik front was crushed, was heard saying "There will soon be peace in our time".

Most of South Yugoslavia, up to Belgrade has been absorbed into the Hellenic state, whilst the Reich has taken administration of the rest, with one minor adjustment.

Also Today, The Croatian people are free, As the Reich enables the states creation, Greek ambassadors have already been dispatched to Zagreb to discuss matters that will affect them in the coming years...

The Destruction Of Dubrovnik, October, 1936

Dubrovnik Lies In Ruins

Over 9,000 bodies litter the streets of the smashed city, Yugoslavian army elements held out for weeks, before succumbing to greek might, Great Alliance newspapers call it a "Grand Victory", whilst The Western Alliance describe it as a "Massacre", however, one thing they both agree on, Yugoslavia is crushed, And greek forces are moving into Germany, where French forces have made a breakthrough..

The Great Pocket, North Western Germany, January, 1937

From Cologne to Hamburg, Western Alliance forces find themselves trapped, The border, retaken, cutting them off. Over 100,000 Troops are trapped in north west germany, while Greco-Germano forces press them into the sea, into death.

The great slaughter of the war, would happen here. Machines of war, Men, dying, filling the plains and industrial cities of germany as their supplies run low, massacre would be the correct word here.

Belgium was the only way out... And Germany's only way in.. so soon, it would begin.. France would falter, Her engorged army trapped and killed... No hope was left.

But in Paris, British and French leaders convened, There would be ways...

Western Alliance In Danger

Brussels - March, 1937.

And many a gun fell silent, and for once, there was peace...

The Athens Chronicle
Central Alliance Troops Break Western Resolve!

The Time has come! German and Greek Troops, veterans from campaigns across Europe, crushed the Belgian army! The King, Leopold, has fled to Britain, and Belgians in Africa promise to fight on! German troops advanced into Reims, Seizing the advantage, can the western alliance hold, Gregori I thinks not!

My People, the time has come for us to aid Germany in destroying its opressors, as Turkey once opressed us, France and her petty allies have opressed Germany, even now, our proud men advance into France, and we will reign supreme, we will bring free and liberal rule to the world!

Note: Current Political Overview:

Western Allliance: The United Kingdom, France, Belgium and their allies.
Central Alliance: Germany, Greece
The Comintern: Soviet Union, Mongolia, Tannu Tuva.

The Western Alliance beleives itself to be fighting imperialism from Germany and Greece, who form an "Axis" across Europe. Pretty much Historical.

The Central Alliance beleives itself to be fighting opression, Germany does not do as history writes, however, its people are heavily anti-american (blame world war one loss on them exclusively), at the moment. Greece. well.. meh.

Comintern: Looks and waits, Historical.

I think I'll still refer to Greece as the "Balkan Speedbump"

"The Phoney War"

"With the Allied forces crushed on the plains of Ile-de-France, and Paris smoldering and occupied, The German Reich turned its eyes to England, the only real stout defenders of old europe left, apart from the soviets, who watched from the comfort of their border.

This stage of the Pan-European War, soon to be renamed "World War 2" entailed a full year of nothing, not a shot, no death from war, for the Commonwealth, this was a respite (The Western Alliance Renamed to the Commonwealth (And Allies Therein After the Fall or Orléans), to recouperate, prepare defenses, build war machines.

The Central Alliance soon decided on a new name, Dominating an "Axis" of the European Continent, this soon became the alliances name, "The Axis". This "Phoney" war also allowed numerous countries to prepare resistance groups, their armies, evacuation procedures, and for the American nation to awake, but which side would it choose?

For now, Greece turnt its eyes to one part of the old Hellenic world, untouched by greek conquest... Italy. Taranto.. Syracuse.. But would Germany end the Axis, afterall.. Germany was on good terms with the Italian Generalissimo, Mussolini.

Meanwhile, Unnoticed by most, Japan continued its expansion into China, Which side would this mysterious power choose?"
