The Background of the AAR - Overview - Extract from the "The Current State Of World Affairs" By Richard Mayer - Published April, 1936.
"Undeniably, the current state of affairs in the world begins in Greece, 1930, who's rapid industrialization and militarization lead to three successive wars, and therefore, to the sorry state of the Pan-European War.
Gregori I, The Current ruler of the Paternal Autocratic Hellenic state owes much to the current generation of Greek genius', The rapid economical growth, along with its large technological investment and militarization, their by-products. Therefore, we shall spend some time looking at the 'Greco-Italian War of 33', 'The New Balkan War of 33-35', And 'The Turkish Humilitation - Istanbul, 35', Along with one of many of Greece's diplomatic moves.
In 1933, The Greek government began applying pressure to the Italian government for the return of the Dodecanese Islands and Rhodes from Italy. Mussolini's New Government did not respond in a very kindly way, The Italian Navy attacked Cretian Harbours, destroying a large portion of the Greek Cretan Flotilla, Unfortunately, rather than deter the confident Greek state, This resulted in a short war, where huge amounts of Greek troops landed on strategic sites, occupying and annexing the Islands, Italy was powerless to respond, as coastal fortifications, instead of being destroyed, fell to the Greek troops, The war lasted all but 2 months, with a humiliatating Italian Defeat.
Later that year, Bulgaria began a diplomatic campaign with its Balkan Neighbours, Namely, Albania and Yugoslavia. Albania had suffered one border skirmish with Greece, and had begun to become increasingly concerned with reports of greek military movements, Yugoslavia was suffering from diplomatic pressure to return Macedonian territories to the Greek state, And The Bulgarian government didnt want to be the next Hellenic target.
So, Eventually, after careful military planning, the 3 countries declared war on Greece. At first, the plan seemed to proceed extremely well, Greece forces were forced to retreat several kilometres from the border, however, new greek tanks, recently developed on the safe haven of Crete, began to advance through the mountain passes, Surprisingly, and to the Balkan allies dismay, their generals failed to destroy the tanks in the easily done so position of the mountains, The allies were forced to Retreat.
Albania threw everything it could at the flank, but Greek troops entered Tirana later that month, Yugoslavia dropped out of the war and ceded Macedonia, however, Bulgaria continued to resist.
In 1935 Turkey promised support to Bulgaria, However, by then, Bulgaria was bloodied, and ceded territory in return for continued existence. Greek might was fully turnt towards Turkey, and Istanbul was conquered, The turkish forces were humiliated, where, confident of victory, they left the city fully open to flanking from amphibious landings, Only when Greek troops were outside of Ankara did Turkey cede land in return for its existence.
Soon After, Britain was approached by Greece over the disputed territory of Cyprus, The Hellenic state made a very good arguement to the British parliament, and mainly, the promise of millions made the British government cede the territory, The British economy was injected overnight, and Clement Atlee's popularity rose by 15%.
In 1936, The German Reich began its military campaign, confident it could win, due to the ambitious Greek states moves, Germany moved against Czechoslovakia and Austria, France and her allies were quick to move, declaring war soon after, something Germany did not expect. The German Reich, Lead by a relatively unknown man, Chancellor Himmler, has held its ground, for now, and it is argued over the world that it could win its war.
This has lead to the current position, where war rages in western Europe. It could be argued this all lies with one man, a greek man, Gregori I.
However, one thing is true, the Greek Flag flies over many more provinces than it did before, and its inclusion in either side of the war will be pivotal."
