It is now the year of our Lord 1298, young Duke Maximilian of Avignon was now 17 and preparations began for his enthronement as Papal ruler. His father Saint Giovanni 'the Confessor' was only nominally duke, whereas his coronation installed him as dejure lord of Avignon and invested the Papacy with nominal rights over both Venaissin and Viviers - the Orsini's now controlled territory each side of the Rhône. An alliance was drawn up whereby the French King Philippe III 'the Crusader' wed Francesca Orsini, assuring that Italian assistance would be ready for any future conflict with England.

Following advice given to me by followers of this thread I shall keep playing as my customised duke and not my Orsini cousin and now Crusader King of Egypt. Should make for more interesting gameplay!
