My game crashes every time I play and I think that it is because of all the leader faces are exactly the same when I choose a country. Could this be a problem with my game by makeing it crash and is there anyway to fix it.

Have you updated to the latest beta patch? The "same face" bug was fixed with a patch a while ago.

Ok, have you taken a look at this thread at all? It may help with the random crash. The latest patch should have ironed out the no_culture bug, I think.

Did you patch up the game and then return to an old saved game? If so, the problem may also lie there. There may be a compatability issue regarding the new patch and old saved games. Try starting a new game as a test and run through the game on high speed to see if the game crashes on the same or other dates. If it doesn't, it's likely to be a problem with the saved game itself, rather than the game as a whole.

I'd also reccommend updating all of your drivers on your PC (e.g. display, sound, DirectX, etc.). If you've still got no luck, run DXDiag from your Run command line and post the results here for AndrewT to take a look at. It'd also be helpful to have your settings.txt (from your Rome directory) and maybe the offending save game.

Hope this helps! :) I know how frustrating it can be when Rome crashes!

everything is up to date unless i need to get windows 7

No, Rome should be compatible with XP, Vista and Win7.

All I can suggest is to post the info I mentioned before and wait for AndrewT to offer a solution. When you updated Rome, did you do it via the launcher (to v2.2) or did you install the beta patch (v2.31c)? If you haven't installed the beta, I'd suggest trying that, too.

... as well as 2.2? That beta requires 2.2 to be present before you apply it.

Let's try a full reinstall. First move any valued save games elsewhere. Then uninstall both games, and then manually delete the game directory - this is important. Reinstall Rome:Gold - choose a new directory like c:\games\rome instead of the suggested path. Then apply the 2.2 patch over that same directory, then the 2.31 beta patch over that same new directory. Now start a fresh game as see how you go.

I did everything you said but then when i started the game it crashed, at instalating maplogic, and something came up that said file exception! something somthing ./discfile and ect..

Then a runtime error came up. It did say that it could not install something when i was installing the game. It said the file, cant remember what one but it had hyphons and a bunch of numbers and letters.

Well that's really bad, we're not seeing that issue elsewhere. Where do you have your Rome:Gold from? Is it a boxed version, Steam, GG, Impulse or what? If it's a downloaded version you may have a bad download.

So I'd suggest uninstalling again, delete the game directory again, and install just Rome:Gold, no patch. If you have Steam, use its client to check the download files and let it fix anything it finds. Then run up the game and see if it basically works. If and only if that looks OK, download a fresh copy of 2.2 and apply that - make 100% sure it overwrites your new installation of Rome:Gold and doesn't go elsewhere. Now check that runs OK too.

Do you have autosaves turned on? I'm having crash issues with autosaves when the game is trying to replace existing files. Doesn't seem to happen so early in the game though, just when the save files have gotten up to a certain size.

This would account for the 1st of january timing of your crashes if it's the same issue.

What checksum do you get? Did you do the full reinstall with deletion that I detailed in post #12? To fix a bad GG download, just delete the downloaded file and download a fresh copy. I'm not saying the GG site's copy has a problem at all.

Does that include people who fail to spellcheck their hero's names? :)
