I know the more warmongering types who play our beloved game of EU will scoff at this question, but I must ask anyway.
Is there a maximum number of countries in an alliance? The reason I ask is that when I have played as certain countries, and have the economic might to give huge bribes to other countries, I will try and form alliances with more than 6 total countries, vassals and all. Yet, when I try to add more countries to the allaince than 6, regardless of their +200 relation to me, the decline to join.
At first, I thought it might be because they hate my other allies. I did some research, and was playing as United Prussia in the ICG. I had vassalized several of my brother German states, and they were naturally included in my allaince. It was Prussia (myself), Hanover (vassal), Hanseatic League (vassal), Hess, Saxony (vassal), and Cologne. I had realtions of +200 towards Kleeves, a royal marriage, and they were without an ally. I invited them to my alliance, and they declined (and I took the -15 to relations as a result). Kleeves was at least friendly with all of my other allies. I tried several times, and my monarch was not a diplomatic incompetent. Yet, they still wouldn't join. The point being, they loved me, liked my other allies, but still didn't join the alliance. (And, in a later war, would be annexed by me just out of spite over the matter.)
If I missed something somewhere that says "No alliances of more than 6 countries", then I feel silly. But, it seems to me that if you can't have more than a certain number of allies (for one reason or another), the option should be grayed out in the diplomat screen.
On a side note, I want to also ask if your BB rating constantly causes a decline in diplomatic relations, or does it only hurt them all at once? I'm asking because in a series of wars with the alliance and vassals mentioned above, I had a hell of a time keeping my vassals happy with me, even during periods of peace. I ended diplo-anexing them because it cost less than the huge state gifts I was giving them.
