well, i am in year 1755 in my russian GC, and wow is it getting bad. as it stands, i have all of China,Nippon,the Indian States(mugalore,mughul, and that other one)and a huge territory in Persia(ok, all of it)and in egypt. plus lots in NA, but i digress. Now, it seems every 3 years, i get multiple DoWs on me from everyone. i am not attacking at all. i thought, i will just let the time fly by, but no, Austria really hates me(every time i try and go back to avoid the DoW from them, they still do it-i know, it ain't exactly honest, but at this point in time, they have an insane alliance with Spain,Hanseatic, and one other i forget at the moment. also, Denmark is kinda pissed i kicked it out of Norway(all he has is skalne in the south, and the islands. So that gets me into trouble with Pol-Lit(why? i have massive armies all along their border, and still they insist on attacking. and, all my forts are mighty(i am currently researching level 57 land tech). And because i am ortho, i only get 1(now it is 2 because i have royal diplomacy thru Elizabeth)but i never have enough Diplomats to make peace with all of my enemies. any ideas how i can get lots(can't let time pass to get them, always get attacked far too soon.)
just curious.
Love this game, but i shudder to think what may happen when it gets to the last 10 years or so.

You can make peace with the opposing alliance leader which ends the war with all it's members.

In a lot of BB wars when alliances are constantly DoWing on you, one often doesn't have enough diplomats to make peace even if the peaces are always with alliance leaders. But that's a consequence of getting such a high BB value.
 
fair enough, i was just curious how an orthodox state could get more diplos. i have a serious problem, in that the leaders of the alliances will not declare war on me first(ie, Wallachia attacks, not Turkey, Austria, not Spain, etc;)it is the lesser ones that do the DoW on me, and then get their big brothers in on the fun. my problem is that my most vulnerable area is NA(i have maybe 5 cities, but lots of trading posts, and they all get burnt to the ground as soon as i attack. )
as well, i thought BB went down every 4 years. i have tried not to get into wars(been pretty successful, up till now). by my figures,if China and Nippon are not part of Europe, should i not get a BB hit?or am i mistaken there? and also, what about the nations of the Americas(specifically the Iroquois, who always manage to get France to declare war on me if i DoW on the iroquois, although the iroquois have a CB vs the French, strange).
just kind of confused is all. thanks tho, for the suggestions. next time, not so bloody(although diplo annex does't work so well for the Ortho religion(very very very very very very very few states that are ortho(pskov and Georgia the only ones i know of).

If you want to absorb China, there are two ways to do it:

1) Eat it in one big bite.
2) Eat it in lots of small bites.

If you eat it in one bite, you'll get 1 x provinces BB points, which is a lot. If you eat it in small bites, you'll get zero, until you annex the last little bit, in which case you'll get one per province. So best case is one BB point.

You get zero BB for taking non-European provinces from a non-European country, regardless of whether they start it or you start it or either of you have a CB or not -- unless you do a full annex.

If you DoW on a European country, you get some BB just for doing the DoW, with or without a CB.

If you DoW on a non-European country, and their European ally honors the alliance, you have achieved a war with the European for zero BB. If you take the European's "rest of the world" colonies, it costs you no BB.

So the game forces you to be oblique in your world conquering methods, if you want to avoid a high BB.

You can do a tremendous amount of damage while incurring no BB points, if you do it the right way. If someone makes the mistake of allying with a small multi-province non-European minor, you can DoW on the minor, take a few colonies from the European fools who honor the alliance, then take the minor's capital and provinces until you get six stars (don't take all the provinces or this doesn't work), then negotiate peace with the minor, taking the European's colonies in the settlement. This sets the trap again, and five years later you can do it again. If there is any downside to this, I haven't found it. The European might even like you just fine after the war is over.

There may be other costs. I don't know what they are.

With regard to diplo-annex, you can annex non-Orthodox countries with Russia. Someone said there is a blurb in the manual about it, but I didn't see that. I do know that it's possible, since I have annexed Denmark.

Be very careful when diplo-annexing a large country, because that's one BB per province.

really? i thought that diplo annex was the best way to go for not getting BBs. Wow, thanks, now i can try it and hopefully not get royally bitten in the behind with it.
also, can ortho diplo annex any state?(Kazan,GH,Crimea)? or must they be christian?if so, is it not conceivable that you could effectively annex major chunks of Europe(heck, if it is possible to get Denmark, then wow, i never have succeeded, but maybe just my bad luck)

There is only one way out of this situation: to time it so that you are at peace with everybody at the same time.

How? First, save your diplomats. Don't use them piecemeal. Save them up and use them all at one go.

Secondly, win wars. As you gain more stars and the war drags on, the AI will be more inclined to offer peace to you.

Another thing to remember is that you can afford to wait 2 months before an AI peace offer expires.

Save up the dips, and just fight the wars. Don't accept peace during the last stages of the war. The AI will offer again. When a bunch of them offers at the same time, accept them all at once. Then use your saved dips to offer peace to all the rest. Make sure that you don't miss anyone. Make cash offers if you have to.

Then start another war when you are ready again......
 
thanks. as it was, i was taking like 5000 ducats in loans(5 of em) and giving everyone 500 ducats as a peace offer, and most accepted. but i have started a new one, and this time, i think i will go for the smaller wars(as was suggested). my problem was i always did total war, i would run over the country, and then, i guess the BB would skyrocket through the roof(as i annexed them in one go).
