A while back, I stumbled across this page (http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/topic/119926-political-maps-of-the-seven-kingdoms/) where somebody had taken the maps of Westeros that appear in "The World of Ice and Fire" and drawn borders over them to show the possible borders of the noble houses within the Seven Kingdoms. I thought it was fascinating, and as I'd just finished tracing the same maps to create an up to date map of the Seven Kingdoms to make a Game of Thrones Risk game from (Westerisk!), I decided to go one step further and try to use those maps and my own judgement to update the province layout.

It's not finished (it still has all the draft lines on it), but here's what my draft looks like so far. Not all of the provinces are in the same area as they were in the original mod; a few have been moved around for various reasons. I should note that each of the realms was drawn individually and then edited together, so not all of the provinces line up neatly with one another at the moment; however, I plan to fix that during the editing process. http://sta.sh/025ytu3oae3j

Thoughts on this? Any ideas for areas that I could improve from here?

EDIT: For comparison, here's the original province layout from the game. http://sta.sh/0u9lnd05zb3

Someday the map of Westeros should be redone. Essos was added and looks great because it uses the Lands of Ice and Fire as a base while Westeros doesn't and you can see the difference in quality.

Aaand here's the mostly finished map! http://amcalmaron.deviantart.com/art/Custom-CKII-Map-Westeros-511849331

Man is beautiful. Can't wait to play this map in the mod.

I'm afraid I won't have the time to implement this into the mod, but I'll happily put the province map online for someone else to edit in...although I'll need to make some revisions to it first, as the original file got a bit damaged at some point and messed up the scale.

If this did get put in, I'd also advocate there being a new start date called "The Andal Conquest" or something like that...it'd be a time before the Seven Kingdoms developed (perhaps somewhere between 6000 and 4000BC on this map; http://bi777.deviantart.com/art/History-of-Westeros-Spoilers-489883074 ), so, for instance, the North would be divided into "Winterfell", "The Dreadfort", "Barrowlands" and "The Neck". There'd also be lots of De Jure Kingdoms...the Vale could be divided between a Kingdom of the Fingers in the north, and a Kingdom of the Vale in the south, with the "Kingdom of Mountain and Vale" being the De Jure Empire (and Westeros/The Iron Throne being something that forms via event). Two Kingdoms would need changing; the "Kingdom of the Rock" would need to be the Kingdom of the Westerlands (the name could change via event, like how West Francia becomes France in vanilla CKII), in case it was united by a person not ruling from Casterly Rock, and the Crownlands would need to be called something like the "Kingdom of the East(er)lands", since this would be millenia before Aegon's conquest...and the rise of Valyria, for that matter, so most of Essos would be tribal, the Dothraki wouldn't be around, and Andal and Rhoynish states might still exist. Valyria would be destroyed already, which would be ahistorical, but it could be potentially handwaved if the area can still house a state from this point in time.
