After about a year break from the game I am back to playing Rome. I have tried several of the mods available here and while I am interested in playing them I keep running into a series of oddities. I have tried several mods such as Cursus Honorum, Epigoni, Reign of the Ancients, and Lofman Little Mod (I think) and the these oddities keep happening. First I am only able to access one starting date which comes up as January 15, 163 BC which switches to Jan 1, 1 right away. At this date all countries have truces lasting until year 6. If I play as a republic the Senate has 0 members which prevents me from undertaking any foreign policy. If I play as Rome the standard historical characters that start the game such as Lucius Aemillius Barbula aren't available. At least in Cursus Honorum mod Consular elections do not happen me.

This all seems strange, and I have tried both 2.2 and 2.31 and while Vanilla functions fine the mods do this in both patches. I haven't seen any comments about this in the relevant threads, so I wonder if I am doing something wrong. Some of these, like not having historical characters are minor, but a non functioning Senate is an issue for me. Is there something I need to do to fix this, or is this what everyone experiences?

Most of the problems you describe could be related to the defines.txt file and since you experience them in several mods the first thing I think of is that your folder/file tree in the mod folder is somehow messed up.

There are some known issues with vista and the way the folders are handled so maybe a vista user could elaborate on that...

Or maybe you have a different patch instalation from the mods? See if the date in defines.txt of the vanilla folder match the style of the date in the mods' defines.txt.

I don't think it's a patch issue cause I have tried mods with both patches and gone with the patch instructed in the thread. I think y1kdcb5au9rqw may be on the right track, but I'm pretty dumb at all this, so I don't know how to go about fixing it.
