Greatings everyone... I have started making a MOD based on Harry Turttledove's series of books that starts with How Few Remain and is currently in American Empire.

If you are not totaly familiar with the story the short of it goes like this...

CSA wins Civil War...
Second Civil War fought in 1880's
USA allies with Germany and fights UK, France, and CSA in the Great War... USA and Germany Win... Canada occiupied by US... Quebec bomes independant nation. Durring the Great War the south experiences an uprising of african americans that follows the same lines as the Comunist Revolution in Russia... however the revolt is defeated.
In the 1930's the CSA see the rise of an Adolf Hitler style dictator and the world once again steams towards war as the CSA vows to reclaim territory lost in the Great War.

If anyone is interested in helping me out on this please feel free.

First of all welcome - and nice name! ;)

Secondly, this should probably be in the mod forum here !

Thirdly, the idea seems exciting! Unfortunately I can't help, since I'm busy with the Cold War mod!

CSA win the Civil War? as close as they came, the North was only fighting with one hand behind their back they never went as all-out as the South had. i've never read those books though.

is it going to have the same types of tanks/units as in regular HoI?

You may want to see if you can get anything out of the previous work on an American Empire mod here. Discussion started before the game was released but it died over a year ago.

I haven't read the books, but based on what everyone else has told me about them, France and the U.K. help the C.S.A.

The file I downloaded from the old thread has a lot of good stuff in there... still needs a lot of work though. But if there is anyone out there that worked on it at the time I'd like to ask if you mind if I use it as a foundation for what I want to do?

From what I read in the books... most of the tech is identical to WWII... only real differences are in the names. The other thing i get from the books is that there is a lot of political turmoil in both the US and the CSA which I believe would slow down some of the major advances.

The North wasnt fighting with one hand behind their back. The Yankee bastards almost lost. Don't open your mouth about something you dont know jack about.

Evil Leader Jake Featherston... bwahahaha!

Yeah I've been an avid reader of that series! I just finished "The Victorious Opposition" novel. I would LIKE to help, but I really don't have any time. I work 12 hour days in 12 day stretches. If you want to bounce ideas off me though, I can definately help you out. Maybe I can contribute event ideas too. Let me know if that's good.

Oh one idea. It would probably be best to build it off of the CORE structure. We would have to ask permission to use their code though. Some of the Vanillia HoI code I really don't like.

I don't know what parts of CORE would be useful. I don't see many of the events, scenario files, or ai files being relevant to the radically changed situation in this alternate reality. Certainly a good source of ideas but not much probably not much code. MAYBE the tech tree and unit files.

I have downloaded and played CORE several times and I really enjoy it.

I have actually thought about using it... The event files could be used as a spring board... Although like Jdrou said the history is radically different. Although Core has a lot of good "flavor events" like Nobel Pize winners, World Series winners... stuff like that doesn't really add to game play but makes the whole game more fun overall. The American Empire Scenario files and AI files are going to have to be built from the ground up... too many differences. The Tech tree and unit files might be useful...

Who should i ask about using ideas from CORE?

I'd probably start with Steel. I don't think you need to worry about just using 'ideas' but if you use actual text (that hasn't been posted to the forum and become Paradox property) you should get permission from the individual that contributed it.
