Hello lads, I have a small memory to tell you about, which set in my head for quite some time already and also made my CK2 multyplayer game back than even more enjoyable, so I'll start.
It happened 3 years ago or so, me and my clan mates from M&B Warband decided to spend weekend by playing CK2 (in a RP way, playing according from traits and such) as we all are interested in the Dark Ages. We immediately proceeded by playing in the year of 867, we were 6, I was playing in Wessex, one settled in Alba, another in Frankia and the rest in Scandinavia.
Game was going in a quite intriguing way already, approximately 50 years passed since we started from 867, internal politics exhausted Alban King/Player and with the raids of Norwegian Jarl/Player he began to pay tribute to them to get rid of these pesky Northmen, meanwhile Sweden, even though it was united, in 2 years it was engulfed in the civil war which made Swedish Konnungr/Player to settle in the Baltics and leave Sweden completely, while Danish Konnungr/Player and most powerful of us managed to carve powerful Kingdom, which later began to expand in Britannia, claiming East Anglia for himself. I too was doing quite okay, can't really say I did amazingly well as Wessex, when I started as King Athelred I, but soon after he died, as I expected and Alfred (future The Great) ascended the throne of Wessex. I was petty king for a long time, because Mercia in our game became way too strong to tackle for me and I found myself with one ally in Wales, but he was no use of me, as he was busy already fighting off raiders and slaughtering his welsh kin.
As Alfred got old, he managed to die in the battle near Lunden against Danish Player, I lost war and he managed to claim Essex from my Petty Kingdom. War was disaster for me but I still managed to keep myself in a comfortable position to operate and scheme against Mercia to expand. As Alfred died in the battle I ended up with unfitting King called Edmund The Unready, as I remember he had everything low in the skill tab, except for learning, it was quite decent, but he had brother called Burghred of Wessex, who was very able commander, already proving himself against Mercians and Danes, with High Martial and Intrigue, but low Diplomacy and Stewardship and he hated my character, as he wanted to claim Throne of Wessex by himself, even plotting to Kill Edmund The Unready, but something unusual happened, I can't remember correctly what I did to him or he made that decision himself, but he left my court (he was my marshal), I might have banished him or he managed to leave realm by himself, can't really tell, but he went in Strathclyde and stayed there for some time. Now interesting thing starts to unfold infront of my eyes.
Nine years have passed ingame and I see Danish Player, allied with Norwegian Jarl started to amass forces to claim Kent & Sussex from me, I had somewhere between 3000-4000 Warriors, while they managed to gather 8000. Their landing destination was East Anglia as it belonged to them already and would be easier to disembark there, while I quickly gathered my Anglo Saxon Fyrd and started to take strategical position within my Kingdom. I remember battle occurred near Oxford, it was plains and my King even though he was unfitting to lead my warriors, we roleplayed and King should have led his warriors no matter what, plus he was the only one from my court who had "Flat Terrain Expert" trait, so I've chosen the ground where I would meet my foe. But all of the sudden, I saw that my brother Burghred of Wessex gathered warriors from the North of the Hadrian's Wall, warriors from Strathclyde flocked to him, numbering 1500-2000. That really caught me off guard. Meanwhile 3 armies met eachother in Oxford and great battle occurred. But oh my, battle was truly an epic from the standards of the grand strategy genre. My warriors broke into Northmen shieldwall from the left flank, while my right flank was weathering away from the Norwegian pressure, I remember I lost 4 of my commanders just from the right flank, but suddenly my King pushed in the center, killing Danish King in the battle and I saw, that their moral was breaking immediately and my friend (Danish player who lost his character in the battle) also lost his will to continue further and decided to make white peace with me, thus dealing with Northmen threat with one battle, but I remember I had below 1500 warriors left from the Battle of Oxford, so I turned against my brother who was coming down from Mercia and was getting closer and closer to my army, so I decided to pick my battle again and I went with the location which was plains again. Next battle unfolded near Gloucester, were I had tough battle, my king got wounded but I managed to destroy whole army of my brother and capture him in the battle, but price I've payed in that battle was huge, my third brother died, with him, his son followed as well, but at least I managed to secure my kingdom from external threat.
Even if I had this kind of "stressful" experience in the war, I was so delighted and happy what just happened, sure I was happy that I won two major battles which would have been great deal in Roleplay and it was, but most of all, I was happy that I saw that unexcepted move, that my brother (AI) pulled against me, literally AI went on his way, as if he was playing Warband, where he managed to gather warband, made deal with Strathclyde and came after my Throne to claim it, as he though it was his by right. This small, but huge thing for me in Roleplay, is what made that multplayer game so remarkable for me, that to this day when we gather in Discord with lads from the clan, that played this exact CK2 Roleplay round, we remember it with smile on our faces.
So I was wondering, have you had similar encounter in CK3? please let me know, because so far I have not encountered such an interesting move from an AI yet.
