I have never quite figured out which characters you get the chance to capture when you go with the option to enslave the enemy's nobility. In my experience unless very early into the game you end up mostly capturing some old men that are usually part of the royal great family (if monarchy or tribe). So how is it decided which characters are captured? Do you capture prominent members of the enemy (so having a high position and being members of the Royal great family)?
I think it would be better if you got a more random bunch of characters. For me at least it is often the case that I would like to keep some members of the enemy's elite and incorporate them into my nation (for bloodlines or roleplay). Sadly this is very difficult to do as most of the characters captured are too old to marry and produce offsprings.

I haven't checked (especially since I rarely take this option), but I think it just makes all of your enemy's prominent families your prisoners.

I always take that option, it is the best way I have found to populate your nation with much needed characters.

What I would like is that chosing one character, the whole family came with him, holdings and prestige as well.

Being able to trace back the ancient family to the original nation is great for role play purposes. Alas, minor families were axed long time ago.

Ironically, imprisoning tends to give you better and more characters than granting members of former great families asylum (and the latter costs you popularity on top). Also getting the characters in imprisoned state gives you full control and most options to deal with them one-by-one.

I usually take this option for two reasons a) if I want to supplement my nations characters (as pointed out by IsaacCat its great for RP) or b) early on so that I can get some gold if I am playing some small tag with limited resources. From my experience you only get around 5 to 8 characters so far too few be all enemy's prominent family members.
