Looking through the last several days of posts I'm suffering the same problems as many other posters on this forum in the last week. Paradox, perhaps you have a bad patch out there?

I've tried reinstalling ck2 many times, uninstall and reinstalling steam, updating drivers, trying all the compatability modes possible in different combinations on the ck2.exe file, reinstalling directx, changing the font scaling, dpi settings, different video modes, running in 640x480, etc etc etc etc.

It starts up, loads a variety of things, gets to "Creating Textures", cycles to Loading Graphics, then promptly crashes with the what seems to be pretty standard crash message if the last week of posts give any indication.

Needless to say after purchasing the game and spending nearly 6 hours futzing with it I'm a little ticked and disappointed.

Here is your problem, the game requires a refresh rate of 50hz or better. If this TV can't support that, can you try a normal PC monitor instead?

Can you at least check if that screen supports a refresh rate of 50hz?

That aside, yes.

That aside, yes.

It does not support anything above 30Hz unfortunately. I'm confused though why it is able to initialize to the point of prepping the game and cycles through many stages before CTD. I also don't understand why it core dumps because the refresh rate on the monitor - doesn't that seem like something you would expect is managed in the video card layer, or at worst in the nvidia drivers? The last time I heard of caring about refresh rate in the implementation was back in the days when you had to implement your own VESA drivers.

I'm pretty disappointed, it looks like a great game.

I can only agree, I'm not aware that there's any intrinsic reason why the game can't be made to run at 30hz. And it would be nice if the game handled it more elegantly in any case. I have pointed this out as an issue to the developers, whether it will be addressed in 1.06 I do not yet know.

In EU3 at release time it wouldn't run below 60hz! In an early patch they dropped that to 50hz where it's stayed ever since. It too crashes ungracefully if you try to run it on a 30hz TV, although I can't recall if it's in the same place in the load sequence.

I have this same problem, but my laptop monitor is 60hz!!! Whats the problem there?

Same thing here, I could start the game with at home on my Dell U2711, but now (ASUS G55 1080p) it won't start... Where can I find the settings file if I bought the game on Steam?

Edit: fixed it

In that case it's NOT the same problem. Please start your own fresh thread, with full problem and system details, as you see me ask for in almost every thread here. Thanks.

How? It may help us to help others. thanks.

Nah, my problem was that the settings.txt still thought that I could use 2540x1440. I changed that to 1920x1080 and everything works fine. :)
