Antioch

I started a game as Byzantine empire, cheating to get Alexious Komnenus on the throne and giving him Thessalonike and Antioch. Happy to have 3 greatest cities of the empire in my demesne, I checked Antioch and saw it has only 0,65 base tax, similar to some god forgotten desert province. Two questions:

1) Why is Antioch so poor, Orontes hasn't dried up yet, it should still be a great city?

2)Can I change base tax of province somehow? I found Antioch in save game but base tax isn't mentioned anywhere, can I alter some other file to make it richer?

You can change the base-tax of provinces in Crusader Kings/db/provinces.csv (edit the file with Wordpad or Notepad, not with Excel).

AFAIK Antioch has a base-income of 6, so it might be that in your game there are some other negative factors that lower the income.

It had 3 as basic income, I switched it to 15. In game it says it has 4 basic income, around 19 with modifiers. What determines basic income shown ingame, it changes all the time? First I changed it to 9 (Alexandretta has 6), and in game Antioch had less base income. Why is that?

Buildings affect the income, so does the status, such as "struggling, poor, prosperous, rich" and any diseases. Possibly even your tax policy too.

Nobody knows that exactly, your laws and possible even difficulty level seem to effect it.
