I've played the first few years of the AFFC Stannis campaign about 4 times in a row because I kept losing horribly. The only way I, as Stannis, was able to assume control of the Iron Throne was by first sending a Faceless Man after Tommen, which meant I had a net worth of -3500 dragons. Then, out of sheer luck, another Red Priest comes and asks me if I want to create a shadowbaby that'll kill Myrcella. I agreed, but I know that Stannis in the novels would never do this. First of all, he's too honourable to send assassins after people and he certainly can't create more shadowbabies. Melisandre says how much of an effect it has had on him and how he'd die if he did it once more.
During the first three campaigns I was kind of hoping the Neck would at least allow me to hold the North. I got very excited when I saw the special terrain 'Neck Road', which I guessed probably meant anyone attacking from the South has a huge offensive and defensive penalty. But there is NO penalty D: I found this out when I confidently arranged all 10,000 of the men I had left on Moat Cailin, thinking the 18,000 Southern forces couldn't stand a chance. They stood all chances of winning, which they did.
Is it not possible to create counties in which attacking/defending from a certain direction causes huge penalties? I know rivers always give bonuses to the defender, but this is regardless of direction. Or is there a concern that the North can become too OP? I assure you, a naval invasion of the North is very possible. It removes their OP-ness, the amount of coastline they have.
