Relatively new to multiplayer in HoI2, but eager to play some more.

I'm on vacation during August 9th-17th, and would love to pull some heavy-duty MP HoI2 during this time frame.

Looking at using the MEM mod for playing, but open to whatever really (so long as it's ARM).

If you're interested, post here and we'll start working at the details. I'd like to see if we could play a whole game within the time listed above... so talking lots of hours that week!

I actually have almost nothing on my calendar during that time period. Count me in. Can I be Germany?

I work nights, but if we can play afternoons and evenings, I'd be in for sure.

I also have the nights of the 10th and the 11th off.

I'm new to multiplayer myself, and looking for a bit more of a challenge!

I'd like to play either Italy or Turkey, dependant upon whether or not we're going to ally against the AI or whatever.

If you want more of a challenge, allying versus the computer is pointless. That's like the local gang beating up the neighborhood cripple. Multiplayer is all about going against your fellow players. Bloods vs Crips, not Bloods vs cripple. :D

Italy is good.

Heh, that's a pretty good analogy GenSherman!

Definitely would be person vs. person. I'm thinking for this to work, we need at bare minimum 6 players:

1 - Germany
2 - Italy
3 - UK
4 - USA
5 - Japan
6 - Soviet Union

Nat China comes in close to being on this list, but can be managed without. France is another good one to have, but not too critical. But the above 6 are pretty much required for a decent game.

I'm working on getting a forum set up that we can work out the details in, that should be in a day or so.

As for game times, I'm pretty open on all days except Saturdays from Aug 9th-17th. I'm on EST time, could play anytime between 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM, or alternatively, from midnight til whenever. Usually busy from about 8:00 PM - midnight, but while on vacation, i can practically manage any other time.

I'd want to get this game at least primarily finished during that week though, so we'd be talking some real marathon gaming.

Let's get players on board before going into country selections, but I'd be fine with GSherman as Germany and Maj Disaster as Italy. I'd prefer either the Soviet Union or Japan for myself, but I'm open to anything.

Let's see how things pan out, and if we can get to the needed 6 players.

I think we would be fine with four players. Six is ideal, but four is still good. With four players you go Ger-Ita and UK-USSR, or you could go Ger-Jap and USSR-UK or USSR-USA. It still can be a good game.

Lol @ GeneralSherman

Picking on the defenseless is fun sometimes!

Anyway, Germany-Italy versus USSR-UK sounds like a slugfest to me. Ought to be exciting! Though I do also like the sound of Germany-Italy-Japan versus USSR-UK-France.

EDIT: By the way, I can be around 1200 to 2130 hours EST Tues through Sat, and any time on Sun and Mon.

Alright, Gsherman, that will make for a do-able 4 player game, woud still be nice to have 6 for a more standardized game though.

Also, if everyone can give some times they'd be available similar to Maj Disaster, that would be of help in getting this scheduled. It would be nice to start the game off on Sunday, August 10th (maybe 12:30 - 18:30 EST, or something like that) and play during the following week from 12:30-19:30 or 20:00. That's some long sessions, but I can pull them and would prefer to do that to at least get most of the game finished during that week.

If we happen not to finish during that week, I'd be able to continue playing only on a one-day-a-week basis, preferably on Sunday afternoons, so let's take that into consideration as well.

Can we do it kind of late Sunday? I am thinking from 6 to midnight. It sounds like both you guys are off? Otherwise, I might not be able to start Sunday. I have visitation with my daughter that weekend -- when I signed on, I didn't think the ex was going to let me have her. That would let me leave here at 2 to drop her off, and get back by six, then I would be free. Then if we could do the rest of the week from like 2-8 that would be great. That would let me get work done in the first six hours of the day and then play, then have some time with my girlfriend after HOI. And then Sunday afternoons after that would be great.

6-midnight on Sunday may be doable for me, but can't commit to it just yet. The rest of your schedule (2-8) sounds good, though (as long as we're talking EST time zone). That'll put us at about 6 hours a day M-F, that's 30 hours right there. We may not be able to finish, but if Sunday afternoons are fine, we can let the game roll out to weekly sessions at that point.

Alright, so for now we're looking at a tentative 18:00-24:00 (EST) on Sunday Aug. 10th, and 14:00-20:00 (EST) Monday-Friday. Sunday Aug 17th would preferably be 13:00-18:00 or 19:00, and we could use that as our weekly schedule going forward. How does this work?

Sounds like a plan to me. I'm down.

Plus, this gives me a week to run through another game with Italy.

First thing I have to do is disable some of my mods to see if I can get things back to (VBLV)... Or I'll have to re-install on Saturday. Meh.

Are we going to use MEM? I can go with either VBLV, MEMArm 2.01 or EIR. I think MEM or EIR are better games than VBLV.

I have zero experience with any mods aside from graphical ones, but if we decide soon this gives me a week or so to practice. Altogether, I've only played through one whole Italy game, and that was single player.

Don't know how much of a threat I'll be. I know HOW to be a threat and WHAT to do but execution is another animal entirely. Particularly against an unpredictable, human UK.

Hope we get enough players. Haven't heard from Knupp and have no idea if our schedule will work for him. Looks like the three of us are on the same page, which is good, but really need that fourth guy.

We could, if unavoidable, do a three-way game with Germany-UK-USSR. Those games can be fun.

Hm. We'll see, I suppose. Never played any of those three.

Only countries I've played all the way through (1936 to the end) so far is USA (WC), Italy, Turkey (WC), Switzerland, and Argentina (almost WC - LOL). I guess it doesn't really matter, to be honest, it's going to be a learning experience for me either way.

I just don't want to disappoint anyone!

I like the idea of MEMARM 2.01. I haven't played multiplayer with it yet, but have played around with it in SP some and think it would make for great MP play.

Best thing about MEMARM is that is slows combat down (takes about 2x-3x as long to fight battles). This gives time to re-orient to changing battle conditions, which can be really tough in vanilla MP. There's lots of other tweaks, but the mod is completely based on making MP more fun (MEM stands for Multiplayer Enhancement Mod, that's exactly what it appears to be).

Maj Disaster, since your new to the game, I would suggest playing an easy nation to get the hang of, and listen to your allies' advice. My first MP game was as Nat China, they were a good learning curve. Soviet Union is fairly easy on the learning curve (building lots of inf and trying just not to get killed for a lot of the game ;) ) USA is pretty easy too, but the intricacies of the naval and aerial game can be tough for a newcomer. Italy would be a good choice too, but if you go that route, we'd need a good experience German player who could give you advice as you go.

I don't think it's too big a deal that your new to the game. The only nations I would steer away from having someone new play are Germany and UK, and to a lesser extent, Japan. Those nations require some good forethought on building a strategy, the others can afford a few goofs and blunders here and there.

I haven't played this mod MP yet, but have looked at it SP and have played a good amount of vanilla MP. I could help Maj with Italy, so that would be fine. In a 3-way I would recommend he be USSR and you UK as well.
