Hi there,

Ive been an avid Hoi2 player for years now and love the game and its addons.

I recently bought HOI3 and SemperFi.

I was not dissapointed at all but it just blew me away too much I think, too much going on and I cant come to grips with it all and actually enjoy the game.

Should I keep cracking at it? Try the IceD mod? (correct spelling?) or stick with Semper FI?

Or.......should I take a couple steps back and give AOD and/or Iron Cross a shot first? Are they more like just a an upgrade to HOI2 dooms/arma?

I guess I want a game that is between HoI3 and and Hoi2? Or should I suck it up and try Hoi3 because its worth it once I get the hang of it? Does anyone have suggestions?

IMO AoD was my first game back from taking 6 years off HoI gaming platform and was happy to see the game progress since the early days of HoI and Stony Road days. I never bought Arma or DD nor did I buy HoI3 as I heard way too many issues with it at start and complexity was a bit much, granted very nice but too much.

I stuck with AoD then IC came out and I love the combo. The Tech Tree alone in IC makes it worth the buy for me and the time playing it has been enjoyable, not too complex and not too easy either.

Now that DH is looming to be released, I will buy it as well and play IC on top of it and that should be TONS better then HoI3 with all its variants included. But it is my opinion, for 10 dollars IC is worth the buy as it is a mod game that needs AoD or HoI2 Arma to run on or you can wait till DH comes out and buy both. :p

Hi, as someone who has bought every rendition of the HOI series except for any "gold" editions cause i already had what a "Gold" edition was made up of.. I'd definately suggest that you buy AOD and then Iron Cross. Those 2 or just AOD is hands and fists above HOI3 it's not even funny.

Or put another way.. AOD and Iron Cross is like the nazi's invading poland in 39 historically... U are germany when ur are playing with aod or Iron cross and you are Poland in 1939 when u are playing with HOI3.

AoD and Iron Cross are built on the hoi2 setup.. just much more refined, ohh so much more refined. I also have to say there REALLY should be an upper limit to how many provences one can have in a game and the number that HOI3 has is just terrible. The number of provences in AOD and IC is almost perfect. The only problem i've ever encountered is that in a few, maybe 8 provences out of thousands, you wont be able to get any info on a provence if you are using the sprites, but the workaround for those provences is just to switch to counters for interacting with those very few provences.

Overall, I'd have to give AOD and IC a very stable 8.9 out of 10. Both games are excellent and even though is is rare to purchase a MOD of a game... the purchase of Iron Cross is certainly worth it at the price they have asked us to pay...namely around $10.00. You DO remember that we shelled out about $50.00 for hoi3 and that crap didn't work for months.

ANother analogy is this, HOI3 is like the us banking industry getting bailed out and them paying off their executives... ur the guys bailing them out if you play hoi3.. if ur playing AOD u didn't bail them out they all folded and thanks to US greed the world is back to the "great depression" once again.. heck then we could actually see if the games we have been playing for all these yeatrs would actually happen..... Just joking here... I'm not serious about uschering in another great depression followed by a third world war in a conventional or nuclear setting at all.

BUT, AOD and IC definately are worth the money buying... YOU will get many many many hours of enjoyment out of them.... U might even get a divorce if you really like the games and ur wife doesn't like playing ww2 games with ya
