I thought BarristerBoy was crazy when early on he started a thread wondering who would get to beta first - CK or Vicky. As you know Vicky was just announced as a concept and CK's beta was supposed to be close.

I have to stop typing now as I believe my meal of crow is waiting.

So what do you think: EU3 or CK will have the first beta testing? ;)

CK

I think he may give you a pass Canuck, I find your optomism refreshing on the CK boards man, however you are from Canada..... :D

The betatesting of CK is done by Paradox, and we will announce the beta application for CK when it reaches the same stage as Victoria is in now, ie about a month from public beta testing.

Nothing stops you from participating in multiple betas.

If you are talking about one of todays posts he was saying that he'd rather spend some time fixing something now than have 70 betas report it when testing starts...

I think what's up is that it does make sence for Victoria to progress faster. They have the opportunity to do a ground-up "clean" design. I would wager that a lot of the problems had in CK have to do with re-using an old engine.

With Victoria, they have the benefit of having so many flaws of the Svea Rike (EU) engine exposed already, so they can design with those in mind.

I think sergei mentioned that they ahd worked on the engine, so it isn't just the old engine....

From what Sergei said it sounds like CK may have borrowed a little from the engine but that CK is essentially an entirely new game that had to be built from the ground up - which explains why it has taken longer to develop.

Also we do not really know how long the guys at paradox had been thinking about/programming Vicky prior to publicly announcing the game. Judging from the screenies that were released for Vicky they were well on their way to the beta.

Which of course is something I should have noticed before making my erroneous conclusions regarding BarristerBoy's logical capabilities noted above.

I didn't know such a thing was going on.

I really have to spend more time in the EUII board.:D

Well, I think that CK is probably as different from EU as Victoria will be from EU. They both use EU as a code base, but tinker very heavily with the base engine.

One other difference though is the differing willingness of the programmers to let beta-testers loose. I think I can say that when I first saw the HOI beta it was in a completely unplayable state. It was really more of an alpha build. Johan then wanted our help in almost helping to developthe game over time.

For CK, on the other hand, Sergei seems to want the gamenealy complete before it goes to a beta test...

Your probably right, and IMHO I would rather Sergei be comfortable with the beta. I think I read somewhere that Paradox will be doing the beta testing anyway and since I have been here which isnt very long, they seem to have refined and improved thier methods from HOI to Victoria.
