I hope this is put into the game as well as vote buying etc for the papacy. I think the papacy should be a huge focus of this game along with the crusades, which again is the directive of the pope. Peace deals involving one of your sons becoming a cardinal will rock as well as trying to control the various orders. Though i guess if you try to put too many relatives in the various orders and the papacy eventually their interests will conflict and you'll have to take sides and lose some of your interest huh? Can't wait for this!!!!!!

Well personally I think declaring war or something on the pope should be all but impossible however he should be very much involved in any peace attemts. The clerics were often used for that and since they had a tendency to report tothe pope he got to sit on an kinda unique position.

The Pope, however, did declare war on Italian states and the HRE by calling for crusades against them or offering their land to someone else.:)

Yes but he was seldom a part in the actual fighting as a crusade isn´t exactly the same as a DoW from the pope, at least not legally. He used others to do the dirty work.

You're right he wouldn't get his hands dirty but the results were the same as a DoW.:) Hope the Pope is neither too powerful in the hands of the player nor too weak when handled by the AI.:)

Aye well perhaps the results was the same de facto, but hardly de jure so to speak. Of course thisshould also be a major weakness as his strength in real terms are limited to influencing instead of acting himself.

I guess this is where the benefit of having your candidate elected Pope really comes in handy. In this way, you can make all of your claims to land legitimate (perhaps even have your buddy the Pope call a crusade to liberate them to your crown), or perhaps even add a few claims to your lineage.

Those are the kinds of things that I hope will be very limited when you control the Pope.:)

I like those ideas, how about create a dicoese? That way, you gain a bonus for ur family of having a cardinal being from ur land. After all, the ruler tends to be patron for anybody from his lands (not always) even St. Beckett of England had been supported by the ruler. How about having more of the acrdinals in ur lands give you more bonus.

Like say

Let says there are 80 cardinals,

0= average chance
1-5 = 5% extra chance of getting who u want to be a pope
6-10 = 8%
10-20 = 21%
20-30 = 30%
40- 50 = 38%
50 - 60 = 70% (You have over half of them so ur chance improve alot)
70-80 = 80%
Over 80 = 99%

I made these up, u get idea?
