I only got CK a few weeks ago, and have been enjoying it immensely. As such, this is my first AAR and second game, so hopefully all will go well. I've decided to present this AAR in a diary format, and hopefully all goes well.

I chose to play Aragon because they looked to be in a vulnerable position, however there were opportunities to expand south into muslim nations. Interestingly at the start of the game there are 3 different Sancho Jiminez's, as Kings of Aragon, Navarra, and Castille, and a fourth Jiminez, Alfonso , King of Leon. There is also a Jiminez as Duke of Galicia. Confusing.

My aims for this game
-Consolidate my claim as King of Aragon
-Absorb/Destroy the other three Jiminez dynasties
-Free Western Europe of Heathen influences
-Control Northern Africa and bring them into the light of Catholicism

Excerpts from the diary of Sancho Jiminez I of Aragon.

February 5, 1067
So, this is it, so despised by my fellow faithful that I must deal with Infidels. Our esteemed Emir of Mallorca offers, nay, begs for an alliance. I feel the time is not right for an alliance with such heathens, and as such had to politely decline.

August 15
A message arrived today from the Pope, he calls upon us to liberate our holiest of cities, Jerusalem. I expect we'll struggle to do much in our present condition. Sancho of Navarre, the vilest of creatures, threatens my beloved Jaca each day just by existing, he claims Aragon is his by right, however I know Navarra is mine own.

September 13
Much rejoicing is to be had, for my son was born today! Miguel Jiminez, future King of Aragon. I've declared a week of celebration for such a momentous occasion, as the true Jiminez line will continue for another generation. I expect great things from him.

November 11
I have done a dark deed today, however sometimes these things must be done. I've been increasingly concerned with my foul cousin Sancho, it pains me to say. He currently commands more men than I, and quite frankly this perturbs me, as he undoubtedly plots my downfall. Regardless, today I penned a reply missive to the Emir of Sevilla, accepted his offer of an Alliance. I can only hope that such an ally will keep at bay the hounds which no doubt are intent on bringing me low. Perhaps I am too paranoid, perhaps I am justified, perhaps I'll never know. May the pope forgive me for dealing with heathens in such times as these.

November 29
The Emir of Sevilla saw fit to declare war on Cordoba, so, naturally I felt obliged to help him, although it does become a peculiar choice, by helping one infidel I hurt another. Strange days. However, I won't be sending any forces, as I feel Sevilla is more than capable of crushing Cordoba. I have more important things to worry about.

April 29, 1068
Word has come that Mohammed al-Mutamid, Emir of Sevilla has destroyed Cordoba. One less Infidel to plague the world, our work is made easier by the foolish infighting of the infidels.

October 22
Mummadomna, my first daughter was born today, my lady wife is quite pleased, however I must admit to wishing for another healthy son.

January 9, 1070
We march to Urgell, and, if all goes well this could be an important move in history. Last year the Emirate of Zaragoza, on my southern border declared war on my eastern neighbours the Duchy of Catalonia, and much blood has been lost on both sides. The muslims of Zaragoza have taken Urgell, however they have traded it for Zaragoza. As I write this, I believe that Empuries is under seige from the forces of the Emir, which should serve my cause well. We march to war.

April 13
Urgell is mine, just like that. The fools left barely any to resist us, and after a brief seige they surrendered. Urgell is mine, and so is the title of Duke of Spanish Marche, none can oppose my claim. Now we march to Empuries, recently fallen to the heathens.

June 1
I have receieved word that my lady wife has given birth to my second son, Guzmán. Alas I am at war, however, and do not get to see him until I return. Such is life.

September 9
Our first skirmish, finally some resistance. Our seige of Empuries was disturbed by a minor assault from the Zaragoza forces. A successful day, I led the battle from the front and the troops are branding me a hero for my actions. One should not put too much stock in what they say, however even nobility can have their lapses in modesty.

September 10
The Infidels are beaten back! Although it can hardly be called a battle, after 2 days of skirmishing we drive them back, suffering only 6 deaths and leaving them 80 fewer. However, our first field victory of the war should not be underestimated. We still have to maintain the siege here, and it's good to keep morale up.

October 22
At last, a sizeable force opposes us, however, once more we beat them off easily. The heathen forces attacked in a disorganised fashion, and we've beaten them off causing approximately 750 casualties at the cost of only 100 of our own. Great generalship if you ask me.

November 12
Empuries is mine. I now completely control the Spanish Marche. The Heathens shall not again set foot in these castle walls whilst I still draw breath.
It appears I may have to put my words to the test, scouts report a sizeable force approaching, those scum leave me no time to celebrate my conquests.

November 25
Another convincing victory, however somewhat closer than previous engagements. The Heathen's have left 450 of their dead on the field, however we suffered 160 losses of our own. We now march towards Rosello, yet another fresh conquest of Zaragoza.

December 4
Pedro Ramon de Barcelona has seen the light and the wisdom of my rule. The once independent Duke has declared himself to my cause, greatly strengthening my position. At last, recognition. with strong dukes under my banner I can further my cause of uniting the Jiminez dynasties. With time I shall unite all of proper Aragon then force onto Leon and Castille. Justice will be done.

January 13, 1071
Another crushing blow to Zaragoza, they fall beneath the might of my armies. Nearly 900 Heathens fallen to the sword, at the cost of 200 Aragonians. True Aragonians all.

August 11
The siege is finally over, Rosello is ours. Morale is low, the men don't wish to continue fighting like this, however Lleida must be liberated from more infidels. I have arranged peace with the Emirate of Zaragoza, who yields all claims to titles now held by my, and have turned our attentions to the Shiekdom of Molina. We march to Lleida.

November 15
200 enemies lie dead, we have suffered 77 casualties. I must admit to feeling our losses more and more. One can't help but get to know the other men whilst on such a campaign, and I can say that at one stage or another I've had dealings with those that have died today. However a King must be objective, and we must drive these infidels out.

July 6, 1072
Another skirmish today, they continue to harry us whilst we lay seige to Lleida. This war is dragging on far too long. I'd like to go back to my family, see my sons. I have a feeling the men share these thoughts.

August 24
At last, we have liberated Lleida, an end to this damnable seige. Scouts have reported a sizeable force marching towards us, and so we will wait.

October 1
We've smashed their army and sent them retreating back towards Molina, however we'll not follow. I've arranged for peace with the Shiek of Molina, however he refuses to yield his claim to Lleida, and as such I have had to agree to white peace. I am however looking forward to seeing my beloved Jaca once more, and to finally lay eyes upon my second son Guzmán. Reports say he is quite the rowdy lad.

More to come later, I'll try to get through a generation a week. Thoughts/Comments appreciated. It's quite a bit longer than expected.

That was a very nice first post altough I would break it up into several seperate once if I where you. Hope to see you attain your goals :)

Welcome to the forum and good luck with your first AAR

What patch are you using ? And what difficulty level ?

Aragon is not one of the easiest starting kingdoms

1.05
Normal/Normal
I originally started on a harder difficulty/more aggresive setting, however the Emirate of Zaragoza promptly destroyed me. As it's my second game I decided in the end to go for a normal/normal setting.

Excerpts from the diary of Sancho Jiminez I of Aragon

November 3, 1072
Home at last. I didn't think that such a thing would be so wonderful, however nearly three years of war can do amazing things to the mind of a man. We made the march home buoyed by our victories, yet heavy hearted, three years is far too long, yet we must make these sacrifices for the good of our people, nay, for the good of humanity. Little Guzmán is quite the energetic child, and it was wonderful to be able to see him for the first time. Miguel is now 5, and is a wonderful child, we'll be sending him off for a court education soon, I have no doubt he'll be the leader Aragon needs him to be. It's good to be home.

November 10
I have arranged for a marriage between my sister Sancha and Sancho, King of Castille, in the pretense of closer relations. Hopefully Sancha will be able to act in Aragon's best interests.

July 1, 1073
Mohammed al-Mutamid ibn Abbad, Emir of Sevilla, is dead. Finally free of my obligations to those Heathen scum, I can have a clear conscience, now to find a good christian ally.

July 27
I have formalised an alliance between myself and King Stjepan of Croatia, long may it last. Whilst we're not the closest of allies geographically, we do extend our influence into different regions, which is important, I must make my presence felt, announce that Aragon is no longer the laughing stock of Europe.

August 25
Pedro Ramon, Duke of Catalonia has been granted the provinces of Lleida and Empuries, as he can rightfully claim them to belong to the duchy of Catalonia. This will strengthen his loyalty to my cause, and is a reminder of the just reign of Sancho I of Jiminez.

February 9, 1077
My enemy sits on his unrightful throne, but not for long, I have made my move, Sancho, imposter of of Navarra, is about to fall. We march towards Navarra, bringing the combined hosts of Rosselo, Urgell and Jaca. His forces no doubt muster to oppose me, but I have the rightful claim behind me, and God shall see that all is put to right.

April 22
A grand sight, Sancho retreated with his tail between his legs as we smashed his army. 700 of his men are fallen, whilst reports suggest we've lost a mere 70. A brilliant flanking manoever crushed his army, and we nearly reached that Sancho himself. Alas, he had the sense to run away, and will no doubt stew in his castle as we lay seige to it.

July 3
The fool is getting desperate, they tried to lead a sortie out of the castle and break through our lines, however we were expecting such folly, and crushed his forces, once again he escaped by a whisker, using a postern gate to safely return to his bolthole. He won't be safe in there for much longer however.

Sept 21
Ramon Jiminez, Duke of Navarra finally came to his masters aid, however it was much to late as we once more had a convincing victory and sent him running back home.

October 28
The coward! We finally got the castle to surrender, however Sancho was not there, he must've used an escape tunnel or some such escape my men.

October 29
He must've realised the folly of prolonging this war, as he approached us earlier today, yielding all claims to Aragon and recognising me as rightful King of Navarra. Ramon Jiminez, Duke of Navarra, has also pledged himself to my benevolent rule. Sancho Jiminez, King of Aragon and Navarra. It has a nice ring to it.

Welcome to the forums! And a good start to the AAR. Seems like you're doing well in the initial going in spain.

Excerpts from the Diary of Sancho Jiminez I of Aragon

June 11, 1080
Grave news, war once more, the foolish Kingdom of Hammadid, heathen scum, have declared war on the Count of Zaragoza, Vassal of the Duchy of Catalonia. Naturally for such an insult we have declared war on them, the infidels will pay for such insolence!

July 1, 1081
Finally, the crusades are over, our Croatian allies have liberated Jerusalem! A great victory for christianity! Our war with the Hammadid Kingdom continues, albeit slowly, as the Duke of Catalonia seems to be more than competent at waging war. Word is that he's already routed some of the Hammadid armies and is liberating provinces for the glory of Aragon.

November 3
Whilst still yet to take a direct hand in the action, I've funded the criminal activities in Hammadid, destroying them from within whilst Catalonia destroys them from without.

January 1, 1082
Our glorious Pope has called upon us to liberate Alexandria, however we currently have more pressing matters to attend to.

January 26
The Shiekdom of Albarracin was no doubt delighted to receive our declaration of war, his armies smashed previously in a war against some other heathens. Their infighting helps our cause mightily. We march towards what should be an easy victory, which will buoy our spirits for what lays ahead.

July 4
Another province conquered, more glory for Aragon! Alberracin is mine, and there is one less enemy to bother us.

July 6
Our long time adversaries, the Emirate of Zaragoza, are given notice. Their time on this world is short, for we are coming for them!

October 4
The Zaragozan army was smashed today, a mere shadow of their former glory, and it is here, in Tarragona, that they shall be removed from this world.

November 19
It is won. A tiring day, however I have rid the world of one more vermin. Now, with our immediate surrounds safe, we can concentrate on that festering evil, the Kingdom of Hammadid.

September 17, 1083
They dare? Hammadid armies on my soil, we march at once.

November 16
The cowards finally turned to face us today, and a mistake it was, we convincingly won the day, leaving 300 of them dead. Word has reached us that the foolish Duke of Catalonia has failed to adequately defend his homeland, and we march to Barcelona.

January 9, 1084
The siege of Barcelona has been ended, we smashed the sizeable Hammadid contingent in a day of heavy fighting. 1000 enemies lie broken at our feet, they shall not be troubling Barcelona again.

August 28
White Peace with the Kingdom of Hammadid, I must let my armies recover, we've seen much action these past two and a half years, and war has become wearisome once more, and my coffers are somewhat struggling.

September 17
My firstborn was married today. Jadwiga Piast, daughter of Boleslaw, King of Poland is his bride. I'm sure she shall serve Miguel well in the long years ahead of them.

January 8, 1085
The Duke of Catalonia certainly is a source of trouble at times, he's goaded the Emirate of Mallorca into war, and as such I've decided to give him my support. Token support that is, if the fool manages to lose this war, I'll revoke his title.

March 5
My line is all but assured, García was born today, a momentous occasion!

January 28, 1086
Now, Duke of Zaragza! My coffers revocered (The rest of this entry is ruined by wine stains)

January 29
I have made a mistake. I may have been overindulgent with our fine Aragonian vintage last night, and instead of granting Guzmán the titles of Count of Tarragona, Alberaccin, and Duke of Zaragoza, I instead granted them to García. I'm sure he'll grow into the job.

July 30
The crusades are finally over once more, Alexandria has been liberated.

Well, I know it was in Iberia and not Egypt, but the Pope could hardly complain about those military activities.

True. More to come as well. I feel my last update was a bit dull, hopefully the next entries will be more spiced up.

Some exciting events coming up though. Somewhat daunting task ahead though, if things continue the way they're going I'll finish this AAR with a meagre 50 pages of notes. I wonder what the norm is? More, or less?

The Pope seems rather Crusade-happy at the moment, though I suppose he can get away with it as long as the Arms of Western Christendom continue to triumph. Let's hope Iberia doesn't become an "official" Crusade target or else you'll have all sorts of barbarians tramping around claiming land for themselves that rightfully belong to youl. ;)
