I know some accolades related to specific units like heavy infantry depend on the knight's culture having that heavy infantry innovation. However, in a game starting in 867 some other accolades like Valiant or Idealist don't show up as options for characters that meet the requirements. I can't see any innovation requirements on the Wiki and I see that later start dates have them. Are they unlocked somehow?

Some of them have way stricter requirements than others, for example the Blademaster accolade requires a knight with full Blademaster experience (which I have mainly seen from tournament events.) Some of them are also behind techs, such as Crossbow Captain and Lancer.

The dynasty legacy that unlocks an accolade is Kin 4, though the accolade is incredibly underwhelming.

Check the wiki

Yeah. Many accolades have specific requirements related to innovations, but for example, if you start in the latest start date, a knight with enough prowess and the generous trait may be given the Idealist accolade. If you start in the earliest date, that accolade just doesn't show up as an option even if the requirements on the Wiki are met.

What do you mean they're not available in the early game?
They don't need any special innovations...

If no one qualifies in your realm, just go into the character search and search within your diplo range!
That's how I usually get specific accolades, who trait requirements for some reason are rare in my realm. :D

Yeah. That’s what I do too. But to give an example of what happens.

Start in 9th century: find and hire a knight with generous trait. Give him accolade and Idealist doesn’t show up as an option. Some other accolades do show up.

Start in 12th century: find and hire a knight with generous trait. Give him accolade and Idealist is an option I can select.

This also happens with Valiant and some other accolade types.

What are the default accolade options for primary and secondary options? Do you have any active accolades already, and if yes, what are their attributes?
Okay, my bad. Thanks. This gave me the clue. It turns out some of the accolades that I inherited without even knowing and that were inactive used those accolade types that I was missing. So I couldn't select them again. Thank you for the help.
