Arma 1.2 installation crashes

I have loaded and run Arma before. I recently tried to reinstall it and use the 1.2 update. I get CTD about half way through loading the scenario. If I am running Doomsday 1.3a on XP Pro, what is the proper procedure to get Arma 1.2 installed and running?

You need to install Armageddon in your Doomsday folder

Paradox Interactive\Doomsday fe.

Then apply the 1.2 patch to that same install.

Still Doesn't work

I uninstalled Doomsday.
Did a fresh install of Doomsday.
Installed the 1.3a patch.
So far, so good. Doomsday ran fine.
Installed Arm 1.0a
It would not start. It was missing the asw_.txt file.
Installed the Arm 1.1 patch.
The asw_.txt file now available. I could get to the screen
where I chose my country and scenario. However, the
Arameggedon and the Abyss have no graphic, just a gray box
with an X through it.
Chose my Country and the 1936 scenario. It crashed out to the
desktop.
Applied the 1.2, same result as after the 1.1 patch.

All the ARM patches where applied to the C:\Program files\Paradox\Doomsday directory and I had renamed the AVI folder to AVI.OLD.

It still does not work.

Any ideas?

Do you have Armageddon installed? Because Armageddon 1.0a was just a hot fix, not an add-on.

You need to install in this order:

HoI2 Doomsday (without patches)
Armageddon (1.0)
Armageddon 1.2 patch
