Rectangular shape of an army icon (flag/morale bar/count number) looks generic and ugly IMO.
It looks too modern, as if it was hearts of iron 4 UI style, but not EU5. Style doesn't fit.

Army icons should look like military/battlefield banners. They could even take less space and give more clarity, since info., beside banners about troop number/morale goes vertically rather than horizontally like with rectangular icons.

Military icons on map should look and be inspired more by this images:
