ATI Video Card Lag When Playing EU2

Hello There,

Been a while since I visited the forums, actually more like a year or so but anyway here is my problem.

I have an ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 32 MB and EU2 seems to lag a little when playing. Sometimes the lag comes and goes; it can be there for several minutes when I am playing then comes back in 5 min intervals.

I have the lastest drivers for my card and I am sure the 32 MB by far excceds the 2 MB recommanded Video Card Memory for the game.

Any idea what the problem might be? I would appreciate any help.

Okay let's try some standard things.
1) Rename the AVI folder to AVI_back
2) Set the color depth to 16BIT
3) Turn off everything in the background like E-mail/ICQ/Messenger, Virus protection and everything in the system tray beside the clock.

What makes you connect the lag with the video card? Are you talking about SP or MP?

I am talking about Single Player. I am assuming that it is the video card because it only happens when all objects begin rendering on screen.

I am pretty sure it is not my processor of ram because they highly exceed the requirements as well; P4 2.4 GHZ and 512 DDR Ram.

Thanks a lot Castellon it worked great! I renamed my avi folder and set the new color depth and now there is no lag on screen what so ever, except maybe a little when I set the game to Extremely Fast, but I can live with that.

I am running patch 1.08 of EU II. I did a clean install of 1.00 and still the lag remains. I am completley out of options, any ideas?

Well do everything mentioned in this post from before.
I notice you are running 32BIT color, the game is optimized for 16BIT.

Also your video card driver is way out of date, upgrading it would help.

Well I think it is fixed..for now again.

I un-installed some old software that I thought was conflicting with the Video Card drivers,and did a full regsitry clean. That, along with running the game in 16 Bit, did the trick.

Quick question though; why do I need to shut down background software to play the game without lag with the amount of Ram I have? Either way I don't have anything running in the background ever so this lag struck me as weird, esp. for a game that requires such low minimum requirements that I exceed by alot.

Anyway thanks alot for your help Castellon, I really appreciate it. If another problem should arise regarding this lag, I will post again.

Background programs can cause all kinds of conflicts and eat ram.
The Min specs are way out of date since they are for Win95 and version 1.00 of the game.
Lots have been added and higher operating systems also require more memory.
