Audio quality is noticably worse in 12.x

Description​

Sound effects and music sound much more muddled and generally lower resolution than in previous versions. Many of the music tracks have a background hum/buzz that is much louder in the current version.

Steps to reproduce​

Listen to the music and game sounds in 12.x, rollback to a previous version, and compare it to the previous

I just want to add to this that a user on reddit (cannot find the post right now) has compared the file sizes of the various sound files, and these being much smaller in the current patch suggests that the sound quality is objectively worse than before.
