Looks like video system errors at the end of that log. What Mac model do you have, in particular what video system does it have?

If your model of Mac only has an Intel video system, that is probably the cause of your problem. This game now only uses Vulkan as a renderer, not openGL any longer. And Vulkan does not run well or in some cases at all on Intel video Macs. FYI this game has never been supported on that hardware platform since release, so really it's a matter of luck that it ever worked!

If that is the situation all you can do is revert to the previous game version 1.4.x in the Steam betas tab for the game. Or play on any other machine you have access to with supported hardware.

If however that is not the case - ie that your Mac has AMD video - that's a different matter; let us know here and we'll look into your case more closely.

i understand that you're not the one in charge of this, but. i need to vent to somebody.
are you telling me i have to get
A BRAND NEW MACHINE
or at LEAST a BRAND NEW VIDEO CARD
just to play a game i paid for already?

This is sad. Like, legitimately, it's really sad. If you can, (and I recognize that you probably can't,) PLEASE tell whoever is in charge of compatibility that they just permanently lost an avid fan, and probably a whole lot more too.

Sorry for the mini rant. Anyways, I have Intel Iris Plus Graphics 1536 MB and, given that it's a Mac, I don't have right-to-modify or my warranty's gone. So it looks like my laptop straight-up can't play Vic3 anymore.

I'm afraid virtually none of our games are supported on Intel video Macs - it's right there in the published minimum requirements:
  • Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-6500
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: AMD® Radeon™ R9 M380 (2GB)
This is not due to any malice or carelessness or laziness on our part - Intel video systems are simply weaker and slower than proper dedicated GPUs.

All you can really do is revert the game to the 1.4.x patches, where it would run, even if still not supported under that patch. OR if you have Apple Bootcamp installed, run the game under Windows, which is a bit more tolerant of under-spec hardware.
