I'm sure it's probably too late, but I'll ask anyway.

Could the autosave files have different names?

Say if autosave is yearly could it be

autosave1066.ckg

autosave1067.ckg

So that if we want to check at what point something happened you don't only have 1 autosave file to scan through?

Of course, my next request would be a "delete file" button in the scenarios section... ;)

But then again, I have shortcuts to EU2 and Vicky's directories on my desktop for easy cleanup. Muahahahahahaha

So, what you're suggesting is that after playing for a hundred years, you'd have a hundred autosave files, if you don't go in and manually clean them up?

That sound you hear is people screaming in horror. Paradox, please don't do this.

Do you have any idea how wonderful this is?

AAr writers: Rejoice for you can check your stats and make screenies much easier!

And how long does it take to clean up really? 1 second?

I like the suggestion, but add a button to say how many years to back up, so if you choose 10, once autosave_1076 is on, autosave_1066 will disappear (why you need to autosave in 1066 is beyond me ;))

So do the standard 2, then add 10, 20, 50, 100. Years that is ;)

Oh, and can we please have the normal savegame-title changed to "Nation_Year_Month_Day"? Where it would be nice to have Month as a two-digit-number between 01 and 12, so that the games are in a nice chronological order when I want to continue a saved game.

This would ONLY work well if the autosave is in another folder than your regular saves. Otherwise I would never use it, because it would clutter up my save-games folder all to much.

I agree on this, more or less...

The autosaves can be left as they are for me, but the regular saves should be named like CptnKiff suggests.:)(IIRC, that is like Vickie has it already isn't it? )

But I like the two autosaves you get in Vicky. Since it crashes for me every once in a while when it autosaves, the earlier one is very useful. Sure, a different autosave every year would be very cluttered if there weren't some other things built in (Only holds so many autosaves, placed in different folder, etc), but at least keep the two.

I wrote a tool for EU1 to handle save files better. I've updated it for each Paradox game. I've attached the CK version, which will obviously be of no use until the game comes out... But, it does work for the other Paradox games if you play them.

Briefly:
1) Autosave files are renamed to <a prefix you assign if you want> combined with the game save date (and time if HoI). This happens within 30 seconds of the save file being created.
2) You can elect to have the save file moved to a different folder.
3) You can have an unlimited number of saves, or have the tool limit the number of save files existing to something (1-10). Note, this refers to files that were saved as "autosave".
4) Whenever I feel like taking a manual save, I use the name "autosave". This way the tool handles the file.
5) Alas, I have never had the time or inclination to update it to figure out what country is playing. Or to add the scenario name, and such.

When looking at the save folder in Windows, the save files are in sequence based on time of save, but are still fubar'ed in the ingame load sequence...

It is really a great tool when you need or want to keep bunch of saves (like testing or research). But, for just playing, it is much more flexible than relying on just oldautosave, and easier too.

Cheers,

State
