Problem: System won't allow build outpost or even autospawn an outpost even though there is an inhabited planet in there. Message of auto build outpost appears every month, but nothing ever comes out of it.


Longer:
(I have all DLC, and have a bunch of mods which mostly add new events, etc.)

I had an outpost and owned the system. The system hat an excavation, which I followed through. As an end result the system changed it's name to Deneb, an inhabited planet spawned, a Human empire spawned, and took over the system and adjacent systems. For some reasons the outpost in the system disappeared but the system was still claimed due to the new planet therein.
I defeated the empire and took over the planet. With the empire defeated I get the message that an outpost will be constructed in the system. This didn't happen, and somehow I get this message every month, but nothing ever happens. No outpost.

I destroyed the colony via console so that the system becomes unclaimed. I still can't build an outpost, and the system will remain unclaimed forevermore?

I assume that somehow the event changing the system and creating the new empire changed something with the star to make it illegible to have an outpost/starbase.

Any idea how that might work, how to edit a save so that I can build an outpost?

Have you attempted to recreate the problem in a save with no mods active?


The reason I ask this is because when modded games are brought into question with bugs/tech problems, the first thing the CT often asks is if you can duplicate the issue without mods.

I would not have known how to duplicate the problem. It seemed linked to a specific excavation site which I assume was added by a mod.

I poked around the save files for an hour or two, comparing what it says about the systems before and after the event changing the system happened. After some tries I managed to locate the problem - there was a line of code which somehow was too much and prevented the actual spawning.

(I didn't have any experience with Stellaris save files or this kind of code, so I am somewhat proud of me figuring it out with basically non-existent experience. Having tinkered with a CK3 save file before might have helped, though.)
 
yeah, a good general rule of thumb for modded saves are, if you run into a bug; attempt to see if the issue happens again in a non-modded save

if it does, then a proper report can be filed, and the team can help narrow down the cause
if it doesn't, then one or more of the mods was causing the problem
 
Recently some more people (like me) have this issue. I could only fixed it by completely removing the main star and recreate it. The game said there is already some kind of "defense station" in the system... maybe ghost stations from destroid stabases. But I could not catch them with any trigger. Very strange.
