Hi,
Okay, first game, playing russians, and after about 15 minutes of so, it dumped me back to the desktop,
Second game, playing americans, brought up the menu, then clicked on hints, the main menu stayed up, and would not go away, had to kill the program through task manager.

What do I do to play this game without these problems.

windows ME

No background programs running.

Thanks,

It could be Windows ME. Don't know if this thing was ever tested in that environment... Unfortunately, the NT-based platforms aren't the greatest for supporting games, and ME is the latest product (until XP comes out later this year). Does Microsoft have any Service Packs or Hot Fixes for ME yet? You might want to check that first.

This is the first I've heard of these symptoms, but Paradox may have had other comments.

I use Windows 98 and also get the 'back to desktop' crash, this mostly happens in the latter stages of the GC, last 100 yers onwards.

I've read about this being a problem even before the English version came out. I haven't seen anywhere that the problem has been solved though. So I have the autosave on yearly and then just reload and carry on - annoying, but not enough to ruin the game.

Yeah, I was leary about installing D8x, once its on your box, the only way to get rid of it, is to pray to the X god, worship 15 duroc pigs at X's feet, burn 3 dark red candles ontop of your monitor, then reboot.

Oh well, I installed it anyway, and havnt had the time to really play yet to see if it helped any, heck, just found out there was a tutorial, and am trying to get through that, but dont have the time to sit through the whole thing in one go, and cant seem to save it, even as something else, so i have to keep playing it over and over again, I guess it'll be good that way though since I'll be able to pound the basics into my head. So, anyway the tutorial hasnt crashed yet, so maybe thats a good sign. Although when on the opening screen, the single, multi, credits, intro movie exit screen, if I click on intro movie, the screen goes black, and nada.

Interesting. I get very few kicks back to the Desktop when I'm playing a GC (maybe 2-3 per campaign--not session). But when I play US War for Independence, I'm kicked back every single time the game updates to 1 January 1775.
Running WinME and DX8 on a P3-700, latest drivers installed all around.

I've been claiming that my game doesn't crash ant that it was probably a resource issue.... until this morning.

Always kicks me back to desktop in June-August 1620. Very strange.

Any ideas Patric?
