I was a stormy, cold day when I, L.E.Prechaun imperial advisor arrived in the harbor of Constance. I was climbing off the small cutter as a deep voice said to me: "Welcome to Baden, Advisor! There's no time left, Duke Christioph I awaits you in Karlsruhe."
It took us four days to reach the capital, but those days gave me an excellent overview about my new homecountry...
The Duke of Baden sat on his throne and introduced me to the other advisors and also to the young Colonel von Schoch who was in command of the army of Baden (9/1/0). "Well you might have heard, that Philipp I sovereign of the Palatinate is in posession of one of our home provinces - Mainz. Well Prechaun, now it is your duty to regain that province for me, do whatever it needs, no matter what, just ask for it!"

My first year as advisor... I installed a tax collector ,did some diplomatic work and send some traders to Venice.

Also the national budget was reformed and in December I could proudly report, that our Infra and Trade levels had reached stage 2.

Snow was falling, and the city of Karlsruhe and it's fortifications were snow-covered. The masterbuilder and I stood some miles outside the city and looked at the fortifications. "Well masterbuilder, you are sure that you can improve our citywalls?", "Yes mylord, we will be able to upgrade our fortifications so that 10.000 men will have space in the new barracks. This will only cost some 100 Ducats." "Well then, do it, but it has to be done until next year, understood?" He nodded and left me alone in the cold.
As the months passed I traveled a lot and succeded in arranging royal marriages with some of the other states in the HRE.

Paris July 1495: What a city! I was really impressed. Our noble Duke had send me to France to arrange a marriage with the french King. My feelings toward france weren't that good, but I also saw the necessity to avoid a french declaration of war, during our expansion within the HRE, which was planned already. I left Paris with good news, the cousin of the french King was willing to marry the sister of our Duke's nephew...

It was raining as Colonel von Schoch visited me in my rooms in the palace. "Hmmm, well Colonel, what news do you have for me?" - "Advisor, my men are now well trained in the art of gunnery, didn't you promise that you will give me cannons?" - "Yes indeed Colonel, follow me"
We left the palace behind and drove to the new cannon-foundry, where the mastergunsmith was surprised by our visit.
"Hmmm, well gunsmith what about my 10 cannons - how long does it take until they are finished?" - "At least six months, mylord!"
"Well then, Colonel are you pleased with those news?" He nodded and we left.

"Prechaun, look at my people, thet love me that much, that they formed a volunteer corps." - "Sire I am amazed, I will order von Schoch to integrate them into our army immediately, and Mainz will be yours very soon."

Colonel von Schoch is already on the road to Mainz, while our spies tell us, that Fieldarshal von Sickingen (2/2/3/3) is marching towards Hessen, and leaves the palatinate without a single defender." - "Who are their allies, Prechaun?" - "Well Philipp was able to rally Thuringen, Bohemia, Saxony and Bavaria around his colors, but that doesn't put fear into the hearts of our men..."

Several battles are fought in Thuringen, Hessen and Austria, but our armies weren't involved. Our allies lay siege to Thuringen, our enemies lay siege to Hessen.

"Colonel von Schoch!" - "Ahh advisor, have you led the reinforcements personally?" - "Yes, and I also brought you additionally 20 cannons!"
Colonel von Schoch was very happy about his new toys and it took the rest of that day until he had every single gun in the correct position.
"Sorry about my enthusiasm but with those guns we are able to crush these walls in less than 2 months! And then we will march directly to their capital!" - "Well do it so!"
March 1, we have freed the population of Heidelberg. Mainz is ours.
April 7, we lay siege to Pfalz
May 25, new conscriptions are trained in baden by a new commander: Colonel von Schröer (2/1/0)
July 5, Hessen has surrendered and accepts peace with our enemies.
"What? Hessen has surrendered?" - "Yes Sire, and these aren't the worst news! Fieldmarshal von Sickingen and the army of palatinate is marching towards Mainz, soon they will lay siege to Heidelberg, and if some other of our allies..." - "No, no we need more soldiers, go and buy some troops..."

While the war in the palatinate took my full attention, the citywalls in Baden were upgraded to level 3 and the garrison was raised to 15.000 men. The masterbuilder of our fine nation is really an able man. Our noble Duke rewarded these deeds by lifting him into the rank of a royal masterbuilder.
February 15: In the outskirts of Heidelberg/Mainz
"Colonel, colonel, we defeated them. Sir, we killed von Sickingen!" von Schröer was happy to hear that, now he could leave Mainz to support von Schoch's siege in Pfalz.
March 21, von Schoch orders his men to charge the citywalls in Pfalz.

"Well advisor, now that I have signed the peace-treaty in which you have stolen Mainz, I want you to leave my land, and I don't want to see you again! And tell Duke Christoph, that he will go to hell for what he has done to me!"
I took the treaty and left the room, smiling, knowing that this sovereign wasn't a threat to Baden or a threat to anyone. Surrounded by enemies, with no army left and no money to raise a new one, the palatinate was sentenced to death.

Now I felt better, my head was still on my shoulders and I had led my first war. My sovereign was satisfied with my achievements though we had lost 18.000 men during battles and sieges. My hopes were, that we would see some years of peace to come.
